More so IMO because I knew by the the talent they had then and the way Bowels coached it was a mirage.

Well said…I’m in the same boat with Zach… not convinced yet. He has shown flashes, and he’s grown, but he’s got a long way to go. We have too much talent at WR and TE for him to play as badly as he did yesterday. He definitely held the ball too long at times, and maybe that’s route running or play calling…where are the quick crossers to Moore, or the screens to Berrios … we actually had a nice TE screen to Conklin yesterday that hit…we more layups for him.

to his credit, he didn’t lose the game and he had that throw to Davis (which was a bit under thrown and could have been picked) and hey, he won the game, so all good there.

but he has a ways to go yet.

Hey everyone, very excited about yesterday's win. I'm in CA for a few months and don't have access to the games. Between my iPhone and Red Zone had a pretty good idea how the Jets were playing. My TIVO failed to record the game which I can watch from here thru Verizon, but I fixed that issue so I'll be able to view the Denver game if not in real time. It seems Zach didn't have a particularly stellar game looking at the numbers but the D, STs , and the running game prevailed. Go Jets.

Yes it’s a good thing…the issue is that if you want to compete for a Super Bowl, that won’t be enough to get past the Bills or Chiefs or those kinds of explosive teams, just like this strategy wasn’t enough to get past Peyton or Big Ben back in 2009-2010. Defense unfortunately does not win championships in todays NFL where the rules favor the offense and the refs are flag happy on DPI and roughing the passer calls (especially against big time QBs like Mahomes and Allen and Brady)

we are now at a nice place where we have won in different ways, and it was great to see the defense and special teams shine yesterday…all for it! And maybe that’s our ceiling this year…a borderline playoff team? But to really be a consistent Super Bowl contender, Zach will have to develop and improve from where he’s currently at or we will hit that ceiling.
It’s ok…still early for him and I’m hoping he can do it…but he’s not there yet. Defense and Hall bailed him out yesterday … he did it against Pitt so he’s on track. Just not there yet but again, still early.

I agree that there has been great improvement in this year's team and this year's play. For one thing, they have a lot more talent this year than last. For another, those who were here last year know the schemes better, so are more confident and relaxed. In addition, Saleh, Ulbrich, and MLF are learning on the job, getting to know their players better and what they're capable of, are doing a better job with making adjustments and in game planning. With more talent around players like Quinnen Williams, it makes their jobs easier and they can have more success.

That's why they drafted him, but it looks like they're trying to turn him into Alex Smith. They're not letting him play his game.

Well, we're not really competing for a super bowl yet. Playoffs are the target (even though neither JD nor Saleh will say so). The exciting thing is that the Jets are so young that every week significantly increases the amount of NFL experience they have. This team should get better week to week and by year end should be (barring injuries) a very good team and a team that no one will want to play in the playoffs.

Will Zack make the leap to franchise QB this year? Probably not - he still hasn't played 17 games in the NFL, but, unlike most young QBs, he doesn't turn the ball over. With a solid D, a good running game, good WRs and TEs, an offense that minimizes turnovers and has a lot of offensive flexibility with personnel, the jets could surprise a lot of people this year. Superbowl this year would be awesome, but further Zack development, playoffs and, hopefully a playoff win should be the goal for this year.

How is he supposed to play with confidence when his OC and HC are working against him? They've evidently severely restricted him and are trying to turn him into Alex Smith rather than letting him play his game because of the pressure on them from the media and fanbase to win rather than focus on developing Zach. They're asking him to play in a way that he has never played before the end of last season. He's used to carrying his team and being able to freelance and wheel and deal In addition, he's coming off injury and may not have much chemistry with either Moore or Wilson. Also, based on accounts of the 2 games I haven't seen and compared with those I have seen, I believe there has only been one game (Miami?) where MLF scheduled some early easy throws to get Zach in a rhythm and build his confdence, and then Zach played well the whole game. I don't think Zach would be having any issues with Brian Daboll as his HC.

Zach gave me some confidence the way he played in second half. He had a great drive completing just about all his passes when we needed it

What would you say are areas he needs improvement NC? Holding the ball way to long?

In my heart I want to believe you have been right all along about ZW as our next FranQB:)
    What can we expect?

I didn't get to see the game, but by every account I've read of the game, GB's secondary was blanketing the Jets receivers. So how is Zach supposed to get the ball out early when his receivers aren't open? Is he just supposed to give up on every play and throw the ball away? I have to blame MLF for play calling and the receivers for not executing. Some of the blame may be on Zach, but it's hard to believe he would have taken a huge step back from last week where he played so well.

It's ok for us to acknowledge that Zach is not on the level of Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, etc. yet.

Not everyone starts their career and plays at an All-Pro level. Zach has the arm talent and up until yesterday looked comfortable in the offense. He's improved his decision-making drastically since the beginning of last year. There will continue to be some growing pains with Zach but he is improving. I truly believe a breakout game is coming for him. Looking at the schedule, it might not happen over the next few weeks but I think it's coming.

I haven't seen him play this year, so I can't really say. I saw the games when Flacco was playing, but since Zach has been healthy, I've had opera staging rehearsals and been unable to see the games, and only see a few clips on Twitter. I have seen several of the game analysis of Zach Vitor Paiva, Tim Jenkins and Michael Nania. They've pointed out that his mechanics are better, feet more settled, and along with Saleh's and the media's comments, Zach is more comfortable/confident in the offense and in command of the huddle better. There may be some technique/fundamentals issue that he needs to work on, but imo I think MLF's play calling and their having him play more conservatively are the two main things that are hamstringing Zach. He's used to being able to extend plays and create. He's not used to playing like a game-manager type QB, and that's why Saleh and MLF are asking him to do right now. I think we'll see the real Zach when they feel comfortable and confident enough to take the handcuffs off and let him do his thing. Think back to the Titans' game last year. He threw for 297 yards, had several amazing throws/plays, and he was more free-wheeling and playing confidently. That's definitely not the way he's playing now.

For certain, and in Saleh's and MLF's defense, I think part of their reasoning for having Zach play like this is the missed time that he had, the fact that our OL hasn't gelled yet due to injuries, and the opponents we have been playing who were more vulnerable to the run and better defensively against the pass. There's also a lot of pressure on Saleh to win from the media and fanbase. I think he's doing what he thinks will help the team win games moreso than what will help Zach develop quicker.

    Chiming on late here.
    A huge win.

Defense was huge! Love the pressure. Not too many miss tackles.

ZW was just ok but ok is fine as long as he did not cause TOs and moved the chains.

Rushing was solid and Breece the man!

Offense has chance to create more spacing.

no way I am thinking playoffs. Too fucking far ahead. Enjoy the ride. One game and one week at a time.

Allen needed 3 years to become elite. In year 2, he became a QB the Bills can win with. Zach appears to be in a similar place. But, he needs to take the next step and become a QB we can with because of. I hope it happens.

Yes! Exactly. And that is indeed what I meant about that particular throw being athletic rather than "safe" Like you and others are alluding to if you want "safe" we could have gone out and gotten fungible QBX off the waiver wire and sat there nice safe and comfortable and lose 65% of the time. But this is all gas no brake around here (only half kidding) and we're not here to let Aaron Rogers beat us by 10 at home. We're here to take it to him and beat his ass. And if you occasionally go down in a blaze of glory like a young Farve or Elway thats OK. If your throwing 4 picks a week then obviously you need to get yourself back on the other side of the razor edge line between reckless and heroic but yeah... we've got a talented kid here and we want him bumping right up as close to that line as we can.

Inches different, or if that GB defender just was a 10th of a heartbeat slower and that is the TD throw of the day and on every highlight reel across America. And the same pundits saying "poor decision" would be lauding the brilliant throw. Like one of Zach's first games last season where he completed a couple bombs against I think the Titans. I mean honestly those were basically undisciplined heaves but they ended up working out. Mostly because of good luck. To me that throw yesterday was almost preferable and showed some progress. Even though it happened to not work. He was under absolute crushing pressure there and.... almost.

Secondarily, look at the leaps Jalen Hurts has made. Everyone has their own development curve. We dont know what he will be.

Yeah coverage was good but there were some plays where he just held too long and others where he had an open guy shorter but he went for the longer throw and missed…i was at the game so I haven’t seen it on TV with replays and such…I’ll do that when I get home…but the whole offense just looked out of sync in the first half. No easy layups, no quick slants or crossing routes, so yeah I think some of it rests on the play calling….

he hit some key throws, and on the deep one watching it live it looked like it could’ve been picked as it was under thrown…Davis made a nice adjustment to come back for it… it hey the kid hit the key throws and we rode the running game and the defense….

he needs to improve and he has the tools…so here’s hoping he does. I’ll give JD credit for getting us weapons…the OL is starting to come together…I expect Zach to get better.
