Mets win game 1 4-2, keeping the hopes alive. McNeil with 2 hits to open up a 3 point lead on Freeman (who didn't start tonight's game for Atlanta) for top batting average in the majors. Braves up 1-0 in the second inning.
Back-to-back dingers to start the bottom of the first, followed by a disappointing single for Alonso and walk for Vogelbach. Braves up 2-1 in the 6th.
Tomorrow with nothing to play for maybe they would let us play. I call dibs on SS. I got the defensive skill of a rey ordonez.
I hedged my mental stability by betting the Braves to win the NL East multiple times. Won enough money to buy 2 tickets to Friday's game. Taking my mom to her first playoff game since the game 7 of the 86' World Series.
It's too bad that such a successful regular season (second-best in team history) feels so disappointing, but that's the reality of the situation. I wish I felt more confident about the postseason, but I don't - I can easily see them losing to the Padres, given the relative performances of the top pitchers in September, and if they do beat them, I can't see how they beat the Dodgers. I hope I'm wrong, but ...
I only follow the Mets marginally as I have a lot of family and friends who are huge fans, but as a Yankee fan I can assure you I feel almost the exact same way about my team’s chances. if Judge hadn’t set a new record the other day it would’ve felt even worse. So it’s really the high expectations that’s causing the disappointment. Not so much the performance. Contrast that phenomenon with rooting for the Jets. Not a bad season.
