Gentlemen, I simply posed the initial question because I feel its a legitimate thing to think about. The question is largely unanswerable but still interesting at the very least. Yes, Wilson is still considered the future of this team at the position, however, winning games is what's most important, obviously. Here's another question on the back of the initial query: Under this hypothetical, would you rather be 8-7 after 15 games and still in the playoff hunt with two games remaining in the season with Flacco at quarterback (not saying this will happen of course), or would you sign up for say, 7-8 under Wilson - but eliminated from any playoff possibilities at that point? Chew on that one.
The immortal words of former Jets (and ASU) coach, Herm Edwards: Herm Edwards You Play To Win - YouTube
What the fuck is there to chew on? Short termism over a future and all for one game difference in the schedule. It should be no brainer for anybody with one.
There are no simple answers to what sounds like a simple question. The goal is to win every game - getting people ready to play in the NFL must remain secondary to the main goal of winning games. Wilson is not the only guy who needs development and we've seen others on the team with the potential to develop into something special. Do you slow down or halt the development of those other rookies and second year guys in the hopes that Wilson catches up to the expectations people had for him or do you roll with the guy who's in the better position right now to win games and help the other developmental needs and try to work Wilson in in situationally and when game conditions allow without the pressure of starting? I understand that ZW is supposedly training but that was said two weeks ago when it turned out he hadn't even run on the leg - do we even know if he has by now?
I am with Sirius XMs Joe Bininningo a lifelong Jets fan Who cares who continues at QB??? Flacco Wilson White a former CFL player??? All I want is to stop the Losing All I want is Wins!! That said ..we have to continue with Flacco if he wins for us Maybe Joe reads the Posts here and now has some pride on the line for Christsake
Amazingly, Sanchez had more 4th quarter comebacks to his name and the same amount of game winning drives as Penny.
In your opinion, never ever forget to keep adding 'in your opinion'. The goal isn't always just to win a game, that is short-termism, as demonstrated in the previous post, if you don't develop a team how do you expect to win? Of course, the goal is to draft well and develop the players drafted or you will literally end up with no team... again. Build a team, coach them, fill the gaps with what is required at the right time and then the wins that you desperately crave will start to happen. But it is all a bit of an over reaction, is it not? Flacco just won his first game as a Jet and you talk about halting the development of the rookies by Wilson returning lol last week Flacco was a scrub that should have been cut only padding his stats in garbage time, this week he is the messiah. Flacco is 37yo and on his last legs,, of course, Wilson, when fit, should be back in this team and developing alongside the other rookies. Anything else is just sheer stupidity but again that is just my own opinion.
There was video of Zach doing light drills and running a bit. Seems like Saleh has learned to play it closer to the vest when discussing injury reports and players return dates from those injuries.
Of course I've stated my opinion - that's what we're here for and I stated nothing as a fact. If you don't need the disclaimer with your "no brainer" and "lol" comments why would anyone need one? Disagree all you want but why work so hard to be disagreeable? The goal is always to win the game; whatever else might be there is secondary to the reason the game is played. What your opinion (not anything demonstrated) drives you to repeat as "short termism" ignores the fact that there is more than a single guy who needs to improve on the Jets and, like it or not, Joe Flacco may be in a better position to help them. Where's the overreaction in that? Flacco may be past his prime but that is far from being a "scrub." The comfort on the field his years of experience with good teams and bad have made him a very good choice to direct the offense for a team with so many young players. I never talked about Wilson "halting the development" of anyone even if I believe Flacco will be more functional in that aspect - the one you appear to value over winning.
I promise I will never again start a thread without any relevance... https://nypost.com/2022/09/21/zach-wilson-is-jets-future-but-robert-saleh-must-ride-joe-flacco/
