The Pro Bowl Alternates >>>Williams Moseley and B Berrios for now Ask me again 4 games into the Season
SB Champs have been to the SB twice in four years, playoffs in 4/5 and have done so with two different QBs. What’s the point?
Sorry to interrupt this conversation, but we don't have any superstars at this point. That could change as the season progresses.
Personally I dont think you need a superstar to win. I think you need a dominant phase of the game. You need a dominant offense or a defense. We seen dominant offenses and defenses without superstars win games. The thing is the NFL will automatically make players in to superstars when they start winning or putting up #s. I guarantee you if the Jets make the playoffs QWilliams will be a big name. He has the on the field and off the field personality to become a "superstar". I personally think Bectons rookie year, it looked like he was going to be the next big thing for us. The media liked him, and ofcourse we thought we had our future LT. We know what happened after... Right now we have Sauce, EMoore, GWilson, Hall, and MC as guys who have the talent to take their games to the upper level. Lawson is a prime candidate to break out into the All Pro level on defense. Finally I think ex GM Mike Mac thought he needed a star, and signed L Bell. We seen that move cost Mac his job. On a good team you can sign a star, but on a rebuilding team it's a big gamble. But in the end as others said, what is a superstar?
We’re getting philosophical here: did the dominant phase produce the superstar or did the superstar produce the dominant phase?
How many superstars did the Jets have with the Rex Ryan team? Our defense was a dominant defense during Rex's first 2 years.
That's exactly right bcuz guys like D Revis and his Island are born after the success of those teams.
I respect educated guesses from a list of players who aren't high draft picks with tons of hype. Hall/E.Moore are kind of lazy guesses. Give me a name I have to look up! Give me a name that in 3 years I go "holy crap NYJ1970 has really great vision....he should be our GM"!!!
Interesting…if I go by top 3 player at his position, I’d say Revis for sure, possibly Mangold, or maybe the OL as a whole unit was top 5, maybe Antonio Cromartie?
In 2008 we had 12 players either in the pro bowl or alternates. More than half our starters. Arguably the most talented team in Jets history. That was a team that should have contended for a super bowl.
I was specifically speaking of our defense. Revis was in his 2nd yr I believe, and was not a superstar at that point. Revis was creating his Island and was growing into a superstar. My whole point was... After consistently winning and making playoffs superstars are born. Jets Oline was great Mangold and DBrick were some of the big names in our OLine. But when we talk about superstars I'm not sure people Olinemen get mentioned or credited often.
It was, but Rex still inherited 11 of those 12 pro bowler/pro bowl alternates from 2008. It depends on your definition of superstar. If you count pro bowl caliber players then the team had that in abundance. But, the term superstar can be quite flexible and be whatever the user wants it to be. Certainly those Rex teams were talented. But, I think if I understand your point, you are saying the team was very good with few players standing out being better as a team than individually? They had the best defense in the league, the best offensive line, the best running game, decent offensive weapons and good coaching. The same team as 2008 with a big downgrade at QB. Regardless I think the 2008 team was more talented simply because it did not have Sanchez. All 3 of those teams between 08-10 should have been super bowl contenders.
