The only silver lining as I see it is Zach is already out. This OL is definitely going to get our QB killed but considering it's our backup I don't feel so bad.....
Max is known more for his pass protection and while I don’t expect it to be a major strength, I don’t think he will be a liability. I honestly feel if anything the run blocking may not be as good from the right side. And yes AVT has some experience at tackle but I’m sure that’s an emergency situation.
If you feel that way with 4 starters in there currently then you didn’t feel confident in the group from the beginning. You still got Fant at his best position, LT, CM, AVT in there and it was considered good by all standards before the season. Max is the only difference here.
Most unfortunate, don't even know how he got hurt, no real details. Just some speculative crap from a few haters with a resound we should have known. Fuck me, we just cant get going on the right track. . I'm very angry to say the least with the number of injuries in the same critical areas. Something needs to change. Its a curse. But I am not going to get on the band wagon and pile on the current vitriol BS about JD fault because he should have know about injuries, not enough back up, the back up selected was wrong, as the fat slob sitting on the couch garbage statement. They guy was a pro bowler last year not a fat slob sitting on the couch horshit. Not one critic had a better plan, except regurgitating the topic of bringing back Moses, which its been addressed at nausea as it was not about the money, but about guaranteeing a starting position. So Moses chose to go elsewhere, and now we are hurting because of Becton's injury. . Hind sight is 20-20 especially around here. We should have expected all the injuries and by God they did occur. While totally pissed about another less than full force start, I hope and pray Mitchell surprises us all with a solid performance and becomes our RT sooner than later, at which point not one of the critics here will give credit to JD for drafting him in the first place. But that just par for the course.
I’ll add a silver lining……I get the feeling the coaches are impressed with Max but keeping it on the down-low for now. Maybe, just maybe, the Jets have their future RT in front of them….fingers crossed.
He’s a 4th round rookie. Let me put that in perspective, Chuma Edoga was a 3rd rounder in his 4th season and we cut him.
To be fair, he was singing Mitchell praises even before that he was developing quickly. We will find out in two weeks whether he was full of shit or not. One thing I am glad is that Zach is not starting next few weeks. Even if Mitchell is good, it will take time to adjust, and it will take time for Fant to adjust as well back to LT. I suspect after a few weeks Oline might look OK. Not sure about this Sunday though. Ideal case scenario: Max looks decent and gets better each game. Fant gets back to last year's form or better. When Brown is ready to be back, he is a sub and Fant/Max are longer term T starters.
I think the lesson to be learned is just keep Fant at LT. It seems anyone who takes his LT spot gets injured. Not saying Fant did it. It could just be a coincidence. But, to be safe I would just resign Fant, keep him at LT and keep all other potential LTs away from him. Hopefully, he builds on last year.
But two completely different players drafted by different regimes/scouting depts. Edoga stunk sure. I didn’t like him coming out of college. Max Mitchell maybe a different story. Yes the odds aren’t in his favor but I have to say he played a lot in preseason and I didn’t see any glaring mistakes or missed blocks from his side. Maybe he busts too but he may turn out to be a find…..
couldn’t have said it any better…this whole thing was misplayed the moment we let Moses go and said we’re gonna count on Becton, then we doubled down by not drafting an OT when there were solid prospects there to be had. Absolutely HATED those moves then and I hate them even more now. so here’s hoping Mitchell plays his ass off…I’m good with Fant at LT and if Mitchell can be decent then I guess I’ll eat that crow and hats off to JD but until that actually happens, this whole situation was 100% predictable and was easily avoidable. I guess JD will take the credit if Mitchell pans out or he’ll take the full blame if he doesn’t.
this is where I totally disagree with you… first, having Becton go down was 100% predictable and half this board was saying it. Expecting him to play 17 games was a fucking moonshot and a whole lot of us here called it. And shit, he didn’t even make it to opening day. second, while I agree Brown was durable last year, there’s no way you can say with a straight face that it’s unheard of for a 37 year old player to break down…you just can’t. And shit again, he didn’t even make it to opening day either. shocker! I like JD … I’m on board with his plan, his approach, his trades, etc. this is the one big fuckup that I just can’t help getting frustrated over because it was so damn PREDICTABLE, and could have been so EASILY mitigated. just fucking sign Moses…not like he was asking for super crazy money…in fact we paid more for Brown didn’t we? could’ve been done. having not done that, we should have used one of our three first round picks on an OT…I probably would have passed on Sauce and taken a tackle because while I think Sauce will be very good and I agree it’s a need for us especially with the receivers in our division, I think we need to protect Zach, because now that dude has missed a few weeks each year too. or we could’ve gone Sauce then OT then used that third pick on a receiver since shit, we already have like 19 DL… this was predictable and avoidable, and now we’re left with a raw 4th round pick trying to be the answer. Hey, maybe it works and JD turns out to be smarter than us bloggers….I hope that’s the case! But it’s risky and I’m super frustrated because it was an obvious risk.
Nonsense! If Max holds his own it's a good deal for the Jets. If not it's next man up. Do you want him to play poorly so JD can't take credit? I guess this is why this board is depressing.
what’s nonsense? yes if Mitchell plays well I said he gets the well deserved credit. I will eat crow and be happy doing it. I would say none of this is hindsight though…many on this board were saying hey we can’t rely on Becton…he missed time in year one and missed all of year two…maybe risky to rely on him! That was being said then. I stand by my claim that it was fully predictable that he’d be hurt again and miss time…I believed it way back when. I didn’t think it’d be all year but there you go. I seriously don’t understand people who say shit like you just did about me hoping Mitchell plays badly so JD can’t take credit. I am a Jets fan. I hope we win every damn week and I hope every draft pick becomes a great player. I don’t sit here and hope we fail. I can criticize a player or an approach or a strategy because that’s how I see it. That doesn’t mean I hope they fail. Quite the contrary…I hope to hell I’m wrong and Mitchell crushes it and proves ME wrong and JD right. that talk track makes no sense to me…I’m not hoping we fail so I can say I told you so. I’m venting because I think this whole situation was mishandled from the moment we let Moses go. In the end we don’t know why Moses left…was it more money, was it a guarantee to start, was it to play for a contender? Who knows? What I do know is that most of the time, it’s about the money. And the more a player says “it’s not about the money it’s about the respect” then you know for sure it’s about the money. It always is. So I feel like we could have kept Moses had we wanted to, and then let Becton come in and try to take one of the two tackle jobs based on his play. That would’ve been one option. Another would have been to draft a tackle higher than round 4. anyway in the end it doesn’t matter…we’re here, I don’t have any say in any of it as a fan, so it is what it is. but to say the position is nonsense or to say that I’m hoping Mitchell fails is baseless…
It is what it is, was Becton it predicable, probably, and it seems JD was investigating; Thus, the signing.. AS for our HC's comments.... his crediability, for me,is shot. LA stated he wasn't savvy enough and I agreed with him but I'll now add that he has been in the league how many years and he mades these fool hardy comments that creates false hope for the fan base... Better have the team READY to play and not get blow out Sunday or your seat sir will become warm....
The 'should've re-signed Moses!' point seems to get brought up every few days. Is it so hard to believe that he found another situation more appealing where he'd start for a perennial playoff contending team? My gut tells me that JD wasn't willing to overpay for a backup RT in March.
Look who you are responding too. Why even bother? I'm not sure my response here is ban worthy but I'm sure he will give it a go
