Testerverde - Prime for SB run Torn Achilles first game Pennington - coming off a great season breaks his wrist in the snoopy bowl. The the shoulder Sanchez - Hurts shoulder in Snoopy bowl starts the Geno Smith era Smith- Get his Jaw broken by camp player - never played for the Jets again Darnold- coming off a promising rookie season has a decent first game out with Mono Wilson- coming of a solid camp gets hurt first preseason game . You can't make this stuff up. Life of a Jets fan.
2013 was the last time our starting QB did not lose a significant amount of time to injury. Although some people take issue with Sanchez's injury but Sanchez was decisively beaten out by Geno all camp and was very unlikely to be the starter which is likely why he was playing with the 4th string in a pre-season game. If you want to count the Sanchez injury then 2012 was the last time our QB did not get injured. Sanchez in 2012 was benched for playing like Sanchez not for being injured. Either way it is a long time not being able to keep a starting QB healthy.
Bad for Geno as he was having a great camp and that ended his chance ever to be a starter again until this year 7 years later and how long will that last? It could be argued that it was good for the legend of Fitz and for Jet fans. But hard ever to be excited about an injury.
Let's not forget the Trevor Siemian era... cut short after going 3 of 6 for three yards. What could have been...
i should be crying but i'm laughing the sister thread should be "the coulda woulda thread" where we recount things like us passing on Mahomes and Watson because we were trying to move up for Trubitsky
When Joe Namath would get hurt the backup was Al Woodall. He was okay but Weeb was always trying to save money so he never would spend for a second QB. For you younger guys when Vinny went down in the season opener the Jets had no options. That was Parcell's mistake. Anyway I'm glad we have Joe Flacco and Mike White ready to go. For most teams losing the starter is a disaster. Go Jets!
Sanchez had comprehensively outperformed Smith in the preseason. The team wanted to start Smith because Sanchez was in a decline, but that preseason Smith had been pretty bad and Sanchez had been pretty good.
Geno dominated Sanchez all pre-season that year the beat writers kept stats of the play and it was decisively in favor Smith. The only time Sanchez played even with Smith was the week after Smith got injured against Detroit in the pre-season. If Sanchez had played that year with our line our ceiling would have been 2 wins. His normal 26 turnovers a year and 10+ fumbles a yearwould likely have doubled with no offensive line or weapons with Holmes injured and Kerley trying to play injured. there was a reason that Sanchez was playing with the 4th string and that was because he was a 4th string player. Smith might not be very good but there is a reason why he has lasted in the NFL as a backup while Sanchez has been gone for 4 years and that is because Sanchez is bad a QB as we have seen play any amount of significant snaps this century. there simply has not been a QB as bad in the pocket since Rob Johnson hence why Sanchez was all the time leader in fumbles per game after 4 years. Mike Westoff said it best when he said Sanchez was why the team did not get to the super bowl. Westoff said he has a lake next to his house and he could ask Sanchez to stand next to the lake and throw the ball into the lake knowing there was no chance that ball was ever getting wet. As Jet fans we will see and should expect bad QB play but rest assured in our lifetime we will never ever see again QB play as bad as what we saw from Sanchez. We might never have a team as talented as the 2008-2010 teams but at least our QB play will never reach the lows it reached between 2009 and 2012.
It really is SOOO unfuckin believable..beyond words..its hard to remain positive, im not apologizing, THEY, have to prove otherwise..
We remember this very differently, but that's okay. I remember Smith having one of the most brutal preseason performances I've ever seen in the Giants game, throwing three interceptions and stepping out of the back of the end zone for a ridiculous safety. At the time, people were saying Sanchez had won the starting job - maybe a little bit by default, because he hadn't been brilliant, but because Smith had been so poor. Sanchez had a 90.0 rating in the preseason, with a 66.7 per cent completion rate, as opposed to a 54.6 rating with 59.5 per cent completions for Smith. I'm not sure what you mean about Sanchez playing with the fourth string. He was in a competition for the starting job with Smith. The team wanted Smith to win it because they were tired of Sanchez, but he wasn't playing with the fourth string. The Jets were ridiculed for putting Sanchez in in a meaningless preseason game when he had won the starting job from the bench. Matt Simms should have come in (as he did after Sanchez got knocked out of the game and the season and New York), but the Jets are the Jets for a reason.
