I'm a firm believer that in football you must have at least a few "superstars" if you plan on winning the SB. Example, the Rams have Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford, and Cooper Kupp. You may differ, and I really think you may differ as to what the term "superstar" means, but I believe those 3 were all superstars. Those 3 put their team over the top so to speak. Which brings me to the point of this thread. The Jets have a lot of good, young talent right now. But do they have ANY that you can see becoming a superstar level player? I would further submit if you don't believe any of the Jets current players will become superstars then we're destined to be the same old Jets. IMO, you're welcome to differ, I could see Breece Hall and Elijah Moore becoming superstars. I do NOT believe Quinnen Williams will become a superstar at this point because if he were, we would have seen it by now. Above average? Yes, definitely. But I don't think he qualifies as a superstar. I don't believe Mekhi Becton is any longer destined to be a superstar either as the injuries affect that superstar status. So what are your thoughts? Do you believe you must have superstars to win? If that's the case, who do you think will distinguish themselves as superstars?
I think the ones that will separate themselves from the pack are: Moore G Wilson Breece Conklin Sauce AVT Big Cuddly possibles: Ruckert Clemons JJ Whether or not you call them "superstars" will probably be up for debate. I think we have a really solid core of talent on offense, defense is still shaky for me.
This is flawed thinking. There are plenty of teams with "Superstars" that suck. Football is the ultimate team game and as pieces of your team get better, like magic superstars arise. The Jets need to become a better team and players with Superstar talent will emerge.
Possibilities that could breakout this year include Lawson, Quinnen, Moore, AVT, Hall, Sauce and Tomlinson. JFM moving inside could be very good. Huff's pass rate win rate last year was extremely high and he could have a breakout year. I am going with DJ Reed. DJ Reed is arguably our best player. He was an ascending top10 CB last year and had a dominant camp prior to his injury. I would love to say Lawson but only If we get the 2020 camp version of Lawson then hands down Lawson. He was clearly the best player on the roster last year. Realistically, he is likely many months away from being completely back but he could still be a very good or elite player. He had a fantastic 2019. I believe he was 2nd (?) in pressures that year.
you have to like the mental place it looks like Elijah Moore is in. He appears dialed in. Making the pro bowl at WR in the AFC is a tall task so he probably doesn't get to that level but he's my pick for the Jets player to emerge this season
Only superstar we currently have is CJ Mosley. Others will emerge....and, as football has it, no one will properly predict who that may be. Name one, just one. Don't give me a list of 12 'maybes'. Go....
Established Stars CJ Mosely Laken Tomlinson Carl Lawson (if healthy) Quinnen Willaims DJ Reed Tyler Conklin Emerging Stars AVT Sauce Gardener Elijah Moore Breece Hall Garrett Wilson
We need our QB to be a superstar. Without that, it will be very difficult for the others to claim that title.
I really don't think our problem has been a lack of superstars. Our problem has been a lack of NFL-calibre players. It looks like we have a good stock of those now, evidenced by a good number of our cast-offs being picked up by other teams. Who emerges from this talent pool to be superstars is another question, but the important thing is we now have a talent pool for someone to emerge from.
We don’t have one, and the ones that have superstar potential need a QB that is capable Of getting them the ball, and has time to get them the ball.
Nonsense. I never implied anything indicating the rest of your team was a bunch of scrubs? A good, solid team with a few superstars puts you over the top.
Well, I mentioned two.... Hall and Moore. I think both of them could ultimately emerge as our most productive players.
Disagree. Once again I already explained the example of the Rams. Year prior the Chefs won. Mahomes, Kelce, Tyreek Hill all could be considered superstars. For SB winning teams they're common.....
Potential Stars on the Jets: -Zach Wilson -Elijah Moore -Sauce Gardner -Garrett Wilson -Jermaine Johnson -Breece Hall -Quinnen Williams -Carl Lawson Current Stars on the Jets: -No one. CJ Mosley was signed to be one, but it hasn't happened yet. Still a chance in 2022 with better players around him now.
I don't see any superstars currently. I think Elijah Moore and Sauce Gardner are the two who jump out as "superstar" potential but obviously not there now. I do see a roster full of plenty of talent, potential and very solid players though. Next closest to me in terms of superstar potential would be AVT, Quinnen, Carl Lawson and DJ Reed. CJ Mosley was a star until he came here. Now he's a solid player I don't see superstars as essential though - a deep, quality roster is more important, with or without an Aaron Donald or Cooper Kupp (sure helps though). Oh and strong QB play and very good coaching are by far the two most important things for winning a championship IMO. As well as timing, getting hot at the right time come December/January
Interesting topic Not sure how to define it, but maybe saying a player has to be say, top three at his position to be considered a superstar. that’s at least a start. under that lens, I don’t think we have any. And certainly not any at the most critical positions like QB, LT, Edge…
