When it comes to making the call, a missed game should count like a bad game because in the end, we need a QB who is good and can stay on the field. And Zach has enough of an injury history going back to college that at some point, you have to consider him injury-prone.
I had no problem last year if they decided to let ZW “learn from the bench” and I have no problem this year with ZW starting the season on the bench. Throw in a new LT and new scar and I see no downside.
I'm okay - disappointed, but okay - with him missing the first 4 games. Hopefully that's all he misses and he comes back strong. But what 's more troubling is how this team seemingly mismanages injuries, Wilson is the latest, Becton of course, but then we can go back over the past couple of seasons to see other examples too. I don't know what the problem is, whether it's a poor medical staff, or poor coaching/handling of players, or what, but this is a recurring problem with this team. And while I've been a strong believer in Douglas and his professed blueprint for the team, I still haven't seen actual proof on the field that we're past the SOJ legacy. I've also been supportive of Saleh and like his positive, high energy, but if that energy doesn't get converted into progress on the field then it's not worth much. This is not how I expected this season to unfold.
Why are so many people who have watched this play out for so many years so eager to look at injury times announced by the team as somehow accurate or binding. It has always been deflection, deception and marketing rather than anything at all legitimate.
I don't buy into your idea that the team mismanages injuries; there's no information to support that. What I do believe is that the team mismanages injury information; whether by design or incompetence would be interesting to know more about but would not change the path of the team. Unless, of course, there are factions at Florham Park that are not on the same page and are operating with different sets of "information". That would be a recipe, and maybe an explanation, for disastrous Jets history and maybe the future.
I think they were a little too optimistic about the injury timeline when they weren't sure how the knee would react after testing. Maybe a certain wimpy douchebag owner was breathing down their necks about ticket sales.
There needs to be significant improvement with Zach on the field this season, or the GM needs to seriously considering drafting another QB early round 1 in the draft next year. The roster is improved. It's not Superbowl worthy... but with a competent QB, it could be a playoff team in 2023. If Zach can't PROVE he CAN be the QB to lead them to the playoffs soon, they need to act now if they can try to get another "potential" franchise QB in the draft. There are no guarantees to success. Just keep trying.
Flacco will not play well, and Wilson is not our guy. as a long time Jet fan you should know this by now.
It's unfortunate this is going to be another lost season for talent evaluation. I can't see how the Jets aren't forced into a position to draft another QB and thus clean house again.
That is the main reason most fans were pissed yesterday. Saleh is full of shit. So Tuesday he says Zach may start Sunday, but they will know more in the morning. Then the morning comes and he is out til Week 4 AT LEAST? So hearing that, fans can't even trust the Week 4 part since he already lied about Week 1. Plus factor in he said Becton was fine, then the next day he was OUT for the season. Not a good look. Still, if the Jets win on Sunday, all will be forgiven. If not, I am worried things may start to fall apart for Mr. All Gas No Brake.
I think they pay big money for a established FA Vet QB instead of going the potential FQB route. Their luck has been awful drafting QB's and hopefully, they'll learn this hard lesson and just go with the established Pro.
I knew there was no way he was coming back as early as they initially said... I've had the same procedure. Granted I'm NOT a pro-athlete, and I was 10 years older than Zach when I had it done, but I was jacked up for 3 months, until I could really get back to action... and like you said, alot longer until I felt normal
