I get what you're saying but finding out if Wilson is the guy or not is way more important than maximizing wins this season. I think Wilson starts when he gets back even if Flacco plays well.
That's easy for us to say as fans. Again, assuming things go our way which they absolutely will not, how do you sell benching the QB that got you to 3-1? And then how do you rectify it to the players that signed here because they believed in the FO and staff? And what message does it send moving forward?
That is depressing but I am glad Saleh was honest and is telling us now rather than having us wait each week to be disappointed each week. I guess it is better to be conservative and play it safe than the opposite. Especially after the luck we have had with injuries. But, it sure takes a lot of excitement out of the start of the season. Hopefully we are 3-0 going into Pittsburgh.
Yeah... what was that about? Another emotional hurdle? I bet that during the workout on Monday... Zach or the coaches pushed too hard and the knee swelled up.
Not shocked. But maybe they want him in full reps and ready to go rather then rushing him out there. Flacco, White, Strevler it is...I'd put all in a short leash and play to win. If one sucks, get the next guy in
On the flip side though since Joe Flacco hasnt won a football game in almost 3 years its more likely they start 0-4 than 3-1. Wilson joins an 0-4 football team with little to no expectations. fuzzy good feelings for all involved
This sucks. Another terrible way to start the season. It's like mono but worse! Seriously though, I'm fine with Zach getting to 100%, of course. It is annoying they led fans to believe he could play this week then said "Just kidding! He is out the first 3 games at least!" The key is for Flacco to win a game or 2 during this stretch. It would be terrible for Zach to return with the Jets at (0-3) and the season over before it starts for another season. The one problem I have is while Zach practices to get back into game shape, the rest of the team will literally be playing games and gaining experience. So he will feel behind for half the season at least. That is rough. This season was really about evaluating the young guys (especially Zach) and that can't properly happen now. Pretty frustrating.
This is really what it does sound like. He was looking good went out and practiced and reinjured himself. Or he looked really bad in practice.
Saleh just needs to stop talking about injuries and going in depth about them. He sucks ass at it and did the same shit with Becton last year and now with Zach. "We will take it week to week and see how he feels" is significantly better than telling everyone he has a shot to play this weekend with a good practice today. It's asinine. Saleh needs a new PR guy to help him out because he straight up SUCKS at this.
They don’t want him to look like a fool this week without practicing. That being said, pretending he would come back this week for gamesmanship is embarrassing.
I mean, better than rushing him out too soon... But it's very worrisome given the initial timetable. If he doesn't look a lot better this season, I don't know how they can count on him next year. Oh also, if Flacco blows, please just play Mike White
I fear Saleh is in over his head, not head coach material The entire message from the moment Wilson got hurt should be let's rally around the backup. You run every practice like that and get your team ready to play. It runs counter to "positive vibes only" though, to acknowledge a shitty situation like that, but its what head coaches do
Career risk is real and I think most fans underrate how impactful it can be on decisions, I do agree with that. I just think holding a healthy Wilson out would be untenable with the fanbase and ownership.
I love how quickly the spin went from "Saleh's only saying Wilson might play week 1 to keep the Ravens on their toes" to "I'm glad Saleh was honest with us instead of leaving this unclear every week."
Because Saleh doesn't provide any context we're left speculating--maybe Saleh just said that as he's used to saying "mind and body" while speaking or maybe its actually a ZW mental thing emotionally or mental thing based upon a lack of knowledge due to missed practice. If it was merely physical you'd think he'd just get up there and say "doctors orders".
FWIW I take the "mind and body" thing as him learning to be comfortable with his knee. Two injuries, same knee, I'd imagine you start approaching things a little differently. Everything from your dropbacks to your plant to your release to whether or not you take off running. Doesn't matter if he's fully healed, if he doesn't mentally comprehend that he can do these things without tearing his ACL then it's kinda counterproductive.
