If he is not 100% and gets enough reps under his belt he should not and will not start. Period end of story. You do not bring anyone back after an injury and surgery to boot unless they are 100% ready. Fastest way to fuck up a kids future.
True but I think that's generally bumps and bruises type stuff, a lot different than a recently operated-on knee.
He didn’t look like much of a NFL QB last year so when you sprinkle in all the other factors, it makes sense to give him an extra week.
If he can practice he should play. I am not saying send out the kid of he is still hobbled. He did not miss cp or OTA's. He does not need three weeks to "catch back up" is all I am saying. Get some sleep .posting at 3am
I tried to resist which is why it took me a day to respond. The temptation was too much. In any event, why wouldn’t you want to give him every opportunity to succeed? The stitch wound (even dissolvable on a small incision like that) is probably not even fully healed yet and you want to toss him in there.
if he was going to play next Sunday he would be a limited participant in practice this week and full participant all next week. I dont think he's participating at all right now
Not often I agree with Vilma over Cval in regards to Wilson but yes they should give Wilson every opportunity to succeed or fail. That means being prepared physically and mentally. One of the biggest problems Wilson had last year was being mentally prepared. Being confident and relaxed. When he presses and tries to do to much everything breaks down from mechanics to decision making. The FO and the CS have done a great job of surrounding him with better assets where there will be less pressure on him to try to do too much and he can just focus doing what is asked of him. Give him as much time as he needs. One or two missed games will not hurt him. I am worried about his confidence and getting him into a groove. Let the OL work out their kinks on game one without him. Let MLF get comfortable on game one without him. Let the defense learn to play on game one and come back better in game two. The team has a lot of growing to do and there will be a lot of hiccups early. I imagine we will have a better team each week as everyone learns to play together. We all want to see him play and see what progress he has or hasn't made but sitting him one week might not be a bad thing. Whether Wilson plays or doesn't in week one we should be excited. The glass could be half full here not half empty. Oh wait NM I am a Jets fan.
Wilson or Flacco, Baltimore of old or not, personally I don’t think we have a realistic shot to win this game…not at all. Besides the fact that they’ve owned us for a long time, I just don’t think we have any answer for Jackson…I can see plenty of times where we may get them into third down and Lamar will just run for a first…our DL and LBs won’t be able to get him…maybe Davis can push him out of bounds twenty yards downfield. I think it’ll be Flacco, which honestly I think would be better since at least he’s seen more defenses than Wilson if nothing else…but either way I just don’t think we win this game… I’m usually not the pessimist but that’s what I feel right now…I’d be super shocked and happy if we can pull this one off but I’m just not seeing it
I can't disagree. I don't think there is much if any optimism for week one. Which is strange. I think we all acknowledge that this is the best Jets roster since 2012 or so but no one is optimistic. In the past with really bad rosters there was all kinds of crazy pre-season hype. This year we see the opposite. Lower more realistic expectations is not a bad thing especially as a Jet fan.
The 2015 roster was much stronger than this one. Chris Ivory, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Brick and Nick, Mo Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Damon Harrison, Leonard Williams, David Harris, Revis and Cromartie...
Lets see how things go but I'm not even sure this is the best roster since 2016 at this point. Lots of happy-happy-joy-joy but like the post Zach-draft most of that is pure marketing. How they play on the field will tell us the real story, just like last season did.
Yes and no. 2015 is a valid point which is why I included it in my post above with 2012 or so rather than simply saying 2012. 2015, was better for the one year if everything goes right and Fitz has a career year but not for the long term. I would much rather have this young developing roster with long term potential than have a roster where I need to rebuild next year.
The problem with this roster, talented or not, is that the best player (Q Williams) will only see about half the snaps, while some of the worst players on the roster wont leave the field (Z Wilson, Quincy Williams, A Davis). You are only as talented as the 11 guys between the lines
To me the deciding factor for Zach playing, for me, is will he feel comfortable taking the easy 5 yard scramble, if it is there. Taking those easy yards by running became a big part of his game at the end of last year and in training camp this year he was running a lot. It is a weapon that helps him move the chains and a big part of his game.
I would expect the game plan to be completely focused on how to minimize the damage by Jackson. He is far and way their number one weapon. Its starts by our offense grinding out the clock with sustained drives and keeping him off the field as much as possible. I know its easier said than done but if we can't overpower their OL with our overstaffed DL will be in for a long day. I would not feel bad at all if Clemons meets Jackson head on in one of those runs with a clean hit.
iwouldnt feel bad either but I have zero confidence that our pass rushers will get to Lamar. Our edge guys go full out and they’ll either run right past hi or he’ll spin out and make for the sideline and none of our LBs will come close to taking him down. Even if we wanted to put a spy on him we don’t have anyone to do it…we’d have to use like a safety because our backers can’t do it and even then he’s faster than our safeties. we literally have no answer for him
True. This is probably the best roster we've had in 20+ years from a talent+youth perspective though.
You are most likely right. Not too many teams have an answer for him, if any. Hope Saleh has watched every video of teams that gave Jackson fits. We do have better corners this year and we should at least force a game plan to have him throw more and run less. If that means getting the rush to contain him in the pocket and not over shot the coverage so be it. If we go business as usual with the CS approach "this is a simple, no brainer D if everyone does their job" without adjustments we will be toast.
Probably the best from a talent youth perspective since 1977 and our 1st true rebuild since 1977. Although comparing any young team to 1977 is not fair. The 77 and 78 drafts were arguably the best back to back in franchise history with 1977 being the best of all time.
