What the fuck is the plan at safety now? Not exactly our deepest spot. I do think Parks can handle a good chunk of the snaps but our depth is shit now. I would assume this means we are keeping Davis which makes our depth even worse than if we didn’t put a safety on the field at all
Furious/disgusted about this. All TC tweets said he was doing well. WTF. I was/am a fan. The guy played late last season and did relatively well.
does anyone see any underlying plan to announcing these cuts before 4pm? nothing is official till 4PM, correct? Thats when the waiver time starts, correct? I know every team does these early releases, but is there some kind of advantage? I'm not talking about the actual people cut, but just the timing.
Speculation that parks could be back because he is a vested veteran but I don’t think we have that many players to move to IR. Maybe we are picking up one of the safeties that got cut recently? I know a few of them have ties to both Douglas and Saleh. cutting two very good safeties in favor of Ashtyn Davis is a huge blow to the credibility of this coaching staff in front office
Parks and Pinnock getting released tells me they really must like someone who’s getting cut from another team. Right now it’s Riley and Davis as the backups…
One of Tony Jefferson or Jaquiski Tartt better be on the roster by tomorrow or I’ve lost quite a bit of faith in the front office.
I really hope there is a plan here and it isn't just stubbornness over Davis. I don't think I've seen him do well on a play yet. I'm probably being unfair, but I just don't remember seeing it.
Wow, I don't think anyone saw Davis making this team over Parks and Pinnock. I have great admiration for what JD has done the last few years here but this is on him.
This CS/FO really doesn’t value the safety position. Back in March, I had Marcus Williams in a mock offseason. What was I thinking??
What the...? What a strange cut. The only thing I can think is that maybe the Jets already have a deal with the safety the Ravens just cut.
You haven't, he's literally the worst football player you've ever seen. If we still suck this year I'm going to really start questioning if we have the right people if he does stick on the team.
This is honestly concerning. Safety is a position that has historically not been highly valued. However, if you look at the average increase of contract sizes for various positions over the last 10 years, safety contracts are increasing faster than any other than WR/QB I believe. Teams are waking up to the fact that safeties are very important in the modern game. Past comments and actions from JD and Saleh indicate they are behind the curve on this. It makes me wonder what else they might not be forward-thinkers on. Can we ever hire a coach that isn't coaching like it's the 90's? It's incredible how consistently behind the curve we are as a franchise. We were still trying to win with a running game and defense as recently as a few years ago ffs, despite that formula generally not working for like 20 years now.
