He probably deserves a shot somewhere... our receiver room is just too stacked. Denzel Mims requests trade from Jets: ‘It’s just time’ Two years after the Jets drafted him in the second round, Denzel Mims wants out. The wide receiver has requested a trade from the Jets, his agent Ron Slavin said Thursday. “It’s just time,” Slavin said in a statement to The Post. “Denzel has tried in good faith but it is clear he does not have a future with the Jets. Denzel vowed to come back better than ever this season and he worked extremely hard in the offseason to make that happen. Still, he has been given no opportunities with the starting offense to get into a groove with them. We feel at this point a trade is our only option, since the Jets have repeatedly told us they will not release him. Joe Douglas has always done right by Denzel and we trust that he will do everything in his power to find another team where Denzel can be a contributor.”
The team was never Mims problem. Mims was Mims problem. He’s had 3 off seasons to make an impression and hasn’t done so. Quite the opposite. Considering his minimal impact on specials I’d rather not waste the roster spot. a conditional 5th sounds fair.
Everyone knows he's not making this roster. Everyone. Suppose this weakens Joe's position now, but there's some WR needy teams out there that might throw us a 4th? Maybe Mims agent heard of teams offering a 6th or 7th which we may have turned down? Mims was dead to this team the moment he had those two back to back penalties against the Saints last year. I don't blame him - a fresh start would probably be good for him. He has shown the ability to make plays but also habit of miscues. Connor Hughes questionned his practice habits too. I'd be curious how he looks elsewhere. JD got a 4th for Herndon and a 6th for Blake Cashman. The bar is high
We got a fourth for an extra TE last year, I think JD gets at least that. He’s also another bust of that 2020 draft, at least for this team.
corey davis missed 8 games last year and annually gets hurt. elijah moore missed 6 games and hasn't proven himself yet. last year we had numerous games where all our playing wr's were 4th and 5th string players, at the time. we are in no position to trade away any player who might make us better, for what? a late draft pick next year? enough already, lets start playing for this year and stop dumping our old high draft picks for pennies on the dollar. This team hasn't had talent in a decade and we're going to need depth with our teams injury history.
I think the Cager performance may have shown Mims the writing on the wall. Mims just wasn't a fit here as you only get one chance to make a first impression and Mims just didn't make a good one. He needs a new address and hopefully, JD can get something for him. I wish the kid well and this also may open a roster spot for Cager.
He goes to waivers so unless you’re the jags you don’t know if you can get him without trading for him. Jd has enough leverage to create a little bit of a market
Everytime he's been given an opportunity, It seems to me, he was productive. This Is the one big question mark for me with this CS and Mims. It just never seemed like he was given a fair shake. He took ALL of the criticism from the coaching staff and emphasized that all off-season. Worked hard to give this CS exactly what they asked for. Yet, he was still given minimal opportunity. ... But, again. When given an opportunity, he showed up. Despite the hurdles that the CS constantly put him through. It's bizarre and I hope the kid goes somewhere and balls out because I don't think he was given a fair chance with this CS. Ever.
I'm lukewarm on Mims... he's got some ball skills. But when your penalty yardage equals your reception yards... it's tough...
