The amount and the years might be salary cap games. I suspect its something really like a 2 year deal with a $5 million signing bonus and base salary of $2 million for this year and then $14 million for next year, which is not guaranteed. This type of structure would result in a cap hit of $4.5 million for this year.

    he's played in 16, 12, 16 and 17 games the last 4 years,
    averaging 98% of offensive snaps.

he's better than anyone we have, even if he has declined a few percent

we just need to hope he doesn't fall off a cliff at age 37

he isn't going to win the superbowl for us by himself, or even give us a winning season,
but he does know what it takes to win a superbowl.

Hopefully he'll give us more than the Great Kalil did...

Yeah it's hard to overstate how much of our OL troubles last season were attributable solely to GVR. Once we replaced him it looked like an entirely different unit.

Under the circumstances this is a decent signing. As has been noted above, we had the #11 ranked O-Line last year and have now added a pro-bowl calibre left tackle to it. Adversity has had a response. The Jets have had as good an off-season as I can remember if you consider both the draft and free agency. The team and the culture is getting better. Stay with the program!!.

Well he's been consistent, and that is all we can hope for as far as games played. We only need one year from Brown, and I'm praying he can give us that. Very good signing and considering what transpired since last weekend with Becton very needed.

Paying double for a tackle who ain’t any better than the guy they let go for half the money a few months ago

    but we have hope!

I am not sure Fant is better at LT than RT. Up until last year his pff numbers were similar on both sides. Fant started his career very late and is still young in this sport, still improving. Last year he won the RT job in camp from Moses, who is a very good RT and almost everyone thought he would start over Fant. But Fant was a better RT in camp. He then switched to LT for the year and had a good season, but the point is that it looks like he just improved as a player not as explosively LT. How else do you explain him having similar LT and RT #s until last year, then winning Right Tackle job from a a very good RT Moses, who was projected to start?

I think Fant will be just fine as a RT this year. Its him and AVT together again, but different side. Then on left side we have two older guys who made Pro Bowl last year. This is not bad. Next year Fant can go back to left, and maybe if Max develops he can go right or we draft another RT.

Incredibly insightful article on Duane from JetsXFactor: https://jetsxfactor.com/2022/08/11/ny-jets-duane-brown-left-in-tank/

Basically, a top half starter, though not Elite level (Pro Bowl alternate selection was more due to popularity, though he is still very good). Interesting note, he seems to be a significant upgrade over Moses in pressures given up in pass pro. Of course at this stage we are not going to get a true top of the line player. There is a reason Seattle drafted LT Cross with #9 overall and let him walk, and that reason is that Duane is old and no longer Elite while still wants decent money. But it is quite possible we are getting a guy who will be comparable to Moses this year (last year he was better, but he is pretty old, so there may be some drop off), which is very good.

Because 3 of the 5 players are not good, that simple. The 2 guards are good players. The center and two tackles are not. Fant is not a good RT and Brown gave up 8 sacks last year and is now 37. Seattle, who had absolutely no tackles to speak of, didn’t resign him. No teams even had interest in him until Becton injury. The oline is bad at the 3 most important positions, LT, RT, and Center, and that is not a good place to be in with a young qb.

What's the saying? Something about opinions and assholes or something. Some stink more than others.

Explain how with these "not good" players helped Jets OLine be rated #11 last year? Fant will be fine at RT. He WON the RT job from Moses last year. He is equally good on both sides, just happened to play on the left and wants to get paid as LT. If you watched the games last year OLine was good with Fant and LDT. Now we upgraded LDT, and Duane for Moses is probably a wash.

Now I will concede there is a non zero probability Duane will drop off significantly. However, he didn't miss games last two years, and is in good shape, so I don't think he will drop off a lot. As far as why no one signed him - his price tag was very high for old guy, even though he was still good. I bet JD had to give up around 10 mil guaranteed to get him, which is a lot of money for an old player like that. But at the end of the day, he got a decent player and spread the CAP hit over two years.

Who is the imbecile that rated the Jets offensive line as 11th best last year?

PFF. Why imbecile though? I don't recall any problems when LDT and Fant were starting.

We did suck with GVR in and when Fant got injured, but line was good for most of the year, that's pretty much the consensus, not just an opinion.

Question is: Do they put Wilson out there tomorrow with “new” tackles?

Saleh said Wilson is playing a drive or 2 tomorrow. Might be a run heavy drive or two though

Wilson will play a series or two. Brown has never even praticed with the team, I doubt he even suits up.

No way Brown is playing he’ll be on the sideline in plain clothes.

So since the Jets have this great and "potentially elite" OL as you say, I gather they dont need to address it next offseason then. They can just roll with what they have since they are so good right? Come on man. Be objective
