Feel bad for Becton, but this is a largely self inflicted wound. He clearly never took his rehab and conditioning as seriously as he should have until the last few weeks before camp. JD really needs to work some magic. The team has a lot of potential; but the last thing we need is a porous offensive line derailing our second year quarterback's development, and ruining our season.
I predict one more tweet about coming back stronger than ever, and then no more twitter for a long time.
Well, just out of morbid curiosity and a feeling of 'how the hell do you fracture your kneecap without any contact on it', I did a Google and this was interesting: Patellar fractures are most often caused by: Falling directly onto the knee Receiving a sharp blow to the knee, such as might occur during a head-on vehicle collision if your kneecap is driven into the dashboard The patella can also be fractured indirectly. For example, a sudden contraction of the quadriceps muscle in the knee can pull apart the patella. It looks like this is what happened. The impact Becton absorbed from the defensive player caused his quadriceps muscle to contract and it literally pulled his kneecap apart. It's possible also, given the way he was limping, that he had a minor fracture or weakness already there and this just put stress on it at the perfect angle for it to break? That's it for my amateur MD stint.
He's probably done. It is what it is. It sucks, but we have to move on. Unfortunately between him, Mims and Wilson, still being up in the air, our GM may not have long to go.
The only player worth anything from the 2020 draft is Bryce Hall who turned into a CAPABLE starter that we’ve now voluntarily replaced in the starting lineup.
Andre Dillard would be the only guy I would think could be a trade target. Jordan Mailata has looked amazing for the Eagles and replaced Dillard as the starting LT last year I believe. Dillard, only 26, has been solid so far in his career. Only issue with Dillard is he’s much more developed as pass blocker and struggles a little in the run game. Is that the kind of guy JD, Saleh, and MLF want? Idk but at this point they can’t be too picky.
An accomplished pass protector sounds pretty much ideal to me. Would the Eagles be willing to give up a quality back-up? I'm sure JD is exploring all the options because we need two new, capable offensive linemen in here as soon as possible.
Yeah, like I said, I don’t think they can be too picky at this point. Might cost us a late day 2/early day 3 pick next year but we just need competence right now and I think Dillard could give us that while still being only 26 years old.
Too big for the NFL. Sad story at least Joe Douglas was on top of things and lined up an emergency plan. Oh wait he didn’t
A potential quality back-up was already in the building, discussing terms. There was probably hope that Becton would make it to the first preseason game intact, so I don't think you can criticise JD too much. There is only so much you can prepare for.
I'm not really interested in Andre Dillard, he's been a pretty big bust. Sign Duane Brown for now and then put feelers out for other potentials. If the Bears don't want Teven Jenkins, then I 100% don't want Jenkins. Their OL stinks and acquiring their mistakes won't do the Jets any good.
Douglas knew Becton was overweight and unreliable since this time last year. He had plenty of time and opportunities to prepare for his absence, he just didnt
Seeing that it is a fracture to the knee cap It is hard not to speculate that the original injury had complications and never truly healed causing the new injury. That would explain the long recovery time and why it took until May for him to be medically cleared.
