252 avg 364 OBP 523 SLUG 866 OPS vs LHP 9 HR 24 RBI JD Davis 223 avg 330 OBP 330 SLUG 660 OPS vs LHP 2 HR 9 RBIs He's going to play vs LHP and Vogelback will play vs RHP. It's fine. EDIT - JD Davis + Dom Smith have a combine 4 HRs. Vogelback and Ruf have 23. We just 5x our production from the DH spot. The Mets are getting hosed because Cohen is their owner. Other teams are pissed and know he can spend stupid money so they want to charge us up at the ass. They are mad at him. Rich people don't take no for an answer. I would be shocked if we don't walk into 23 with 300+ payroll. Welcome to Queens Aaron.
The price isn't money, it's prospects, which do matter, if for no other reason than using them for players who are a lot more impactful. Giving up those prospects for a player who will play less than a quarter of the time seems like a bad decision to me. Vogelbach has nothing to do with anything - I never complained about that deal.
The Mets are better now than they were yesterday. If that’s what it takes to be better and help the team move closer to winning the World Series than so be it. Those guys we gave up are more likely than not going to amount to nothing. I only brought up Vogelbach to show how much better Vogelbach + Ruf are than Davis and Smith at the DH spot.
Back to normal for Jake - 5 extremely strong innings, and he leaves behind 1-0. He won't lose it, as Lindor leads for the sixth with a dinger. If they score some more this inning, Jake can get a win.
Nogosek gives up back-to-back bombs, and the Mets are down 4-1. Losing to this team would be very bad.
30-year-old rookie Joey Meneses hits a home run in his major league debut. Three home runs by the team that was last in the league in home runs that just traded their two best hitters. Oy.
The next three weeks will show what this team is - 21 games in 20 days, including 9 against the Braves, 7 against the Phils, and 2 against the Yankees.
There aren't many times that I know a ball is going to be hit out when it's half way to the plate, but that hanging breaking ball to Pete was the same as if he had put it on a tee. Three ribbies for Pete, 4-0 Mets.
