https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/31/entertainment/nichelle-nichols-star-trek-dies/index.html I guess we're all getting older by the day.. RIP Lt. Uhura. You were a pioneer for black women in starring roles back in the 60's.
Everybody makes a big deal about how she was one of the first African-American women to have a major role. It's more than that. She was one of the first African-Americans *and* one of the first women to have a major independent role in an American TV drama. No wifey/daughter/girlfriend role here, which is what women were largely restricted too by the standards of the time. Emma Peel was British. Agent 99 was a straight man for Agent 86. Uhura was an officer on the flagship of the Federation who outranked both of the Ensigns on the bridge. RIP Nichelle Nichols.
Time to explore some Final Frontiers and RIP Uhuru ..you were the best and boke so many barriers! Hmm..didn't you have a scene where both you and Capt Kirk were spelled into to a hot attraction by some aliens?? wow
https://heavy.com/entertainment/star-trek/gene-roddenberry-affairs-nichelle-nichols/ In her memoir Beyond Uhura, Nichelle Nichols revealed that she and Gene Roddenberry had an intimate relationship. However, it came to an end when Nichols broke things off, shortly after meeting another of Roddenberry’s lovers. The Baltimore Sun quoted Nichols on the matter, who stated: “I could not be the other woman to the other woman.”
She wrote about it in her book... and there's this from Wikipedia- Before his work on Star Trek, he began relationships with both Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barrett.[18] After he met Nichols when she was cast in "To Set It Right," an episode of The Lieutenant, he began a friendship that lasted for the rest of his life. During the early period, prior to Star Trek, they entered into a romantic liaison that she described as falling in love.[19] At the same time, after meeting Barrett during the filming of the episode "In the Highest Tradition", they became friends and soon entered into a relationship.[20] After several months he introduced Nichols to Barrett, with whom he had also been having a relationship. At the time, Roddenberry wanted to remain in an open relationship with both women,[19] but Nichols, recognizing Barrett's devotion to him, ended the affair as she did not want to be "the other woman to the other woman".[21] Barrett and Nichols had met previously when Nichols auditioned for The Singing Nun. Nichols wrote about their relationship in her autobiography Beyond Uhura only after Roddenberry's death.[22] She was concerned about their interracial relationship becoming public knowledge, and its potential impact on Roddenberry's career. They discussed it on several occasions but he maintained that he did not care about possible consequences for him.[23] Barrett was not convinced that Roddenberry was going to leave his wife at the time, later explaining that he was troubled because he had made a promise to Eileen and took the commitment seriously.[20] By the time he started on the series, Nichols said that they were only good friends as his involvement with Barrett continued.[18] However, during the production of the first season, writer Ken Kolb entered Roddenberry's office to wish him a happy birthday and found Nichols there, naked and under the desk, also waiting for Roddenberry.[24] During the third season, production assistant Ed Milkis entered Roddenberry's office to find him and Nichols. She was wearing only a letterman sweater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_life_of_Gene_Roddenberry
Lt. Uhura, long of leg and short of skirt - a total babe. R.I.P. Hazel Scott, Barbara McNair, Della Reese, Dianne Carroll, Cicely Tyson, Carole Simpson
She did have some legs on her didn't she... All the Star Trek OS women wore minis. I have a feeling that was by design.
