They didn't do this during the FA/draft process and given that fact it makes more sense to build around Zach Wilson's strengths than to try to find somebody at the last minute to play in Lafleur's offense. The reality is that any QB is likely to be around longer than any OC and so prioritizing the OC's plan is a mistake when there is a clear talent/scheme misfit. Charlie Weis made a living out of adapting the offense to the QB he had at the time.
I agree with the proposed forecasted statistics. He just needs to put it together on the field. For that to happen the Jets, as a team, must stay healthy. People forget and it is very much Material to the argument that Wilson played his best football with almost no one on the field to help him. He played a very good game against Tampa with a horrid supporting cast. I don't want to get into names but the entire team pretty much was off the field. In that moment as they say in football, Zach Wilson made chicken salad out of chicken shit.....
We'll give you a hot shower and a new girlfriend after we pull you out of the Matrix. Until then, enjoy your trip to the Superbowl!
that's probably Wilson's best game but it ends with him choking it away with the game on the line. So its really really hard to feel good about it This part isn't all on him but the Jets had a 2 TD lead in the 2nd half and the other sideline was in a dysfunctional disarray. No way should they have ever lost that game. It says a lot about the coaching staff as well as the players
Agreed! I always thought he looked more comfortable after the whole Mike White fiasco. He just seemed to settle down a lot better.
You need to watch your wording with Brook around. MILF GOAT is a porn search term on the Battlestar Galactica forums.
Zach will show us who he really is. Last year he was bad, and I don't think that is even a remotely unpopular opinion. Before he got injured he routinely missed short easy throws. Even if you remove the disaster in NE, he had 4 TDs and 5 INTs in 5 games with a mid 50s completion %. Even when he returned from injury he was still average at best. He cut back on his turnovers which was great to see, but he threw 5TDs in 7 games. Extrapolated over 17 games, that still isnt going to get the job done. I know I wouldn't be happy with 12TDs and 4 INTs on the season. Having said that, this the best offense the team has fielded since the Marshall and Decker years. If healthy, the OL shouldn't have any serious holes(huge IF). Davis, Moore and Wilson should be a solid, if not good WR group. TE room is solid, and the RB group could even be above average is Hall is as good as advertised. Zach has been given every chance to succeed. At the very least the Jets will know at the end of the year if they need to go in a different direction.
The Jets drafted Wilson based on the judgement that his skills matched Lefleur's scheme. The Jets scouts stated that he was the best fit of the QBs available on a Jets-produced video from last season.
I didn't even mention Darnold earlier when I was mentioning past Jets QB's that were drafted. That was honestly by mistake.
I am not into prediction nor will I say much about ZW except to say he s our QB and hope he has a solid season. He doesn’t have to be among the best. I am more interested in the make up of the entire team and both sides of the ball. Looks like we improved well on paper and looking forward to it. Too much focus on ZW imo.. Defense has to be better. Offense has to be better. CS has to be better. Looking forward to it.
I disagree with the idea that you can't feel good about how Zach played against Tampa. He had almost nothing for a cast in that game. The Jets team was a really BAD team. Yet Zach lost in the seconds of the game. I think that makes for a tremendous building block. Zach needs to perfect a few more things and quite possibly next time he beats them or beats some other powerhouse not expecting anything from the Jets or Zach. This Jets team is MUCH better than last year. MUCH better. They have to put it together on the field. But the fact is, they are talented enough right now to play any style of football and be competitive. There becomes a tipping point when you've added so much talent that inevitably things start tipping in your direction and honestly I think the Jets are there RIGHT NOW. I don't know how long it will be before they put it together on the field? And they must stay healthy to even have a chance but I do believe it's coming.
