I can tie an FG. I use it for my freshwater fishing since I use braid and flourocarbon leaders. Thanks for the reply
Not at all.. You don't have to reel any further than your catch being within arms reach. Even in a Kayak, you can retrieve as much line as you need to boat your fish. Your Braid really is there just as backing and your leader is actually the part that absorbs the initial strike and retrieval. You can have 400yds of braid and several yards of leader aka: Top Shot. The length of the leader doesn't effect how much line your reel in for your catch regardless of platform.
I'm using 20/50 on my tile trip for SPJ. If the current is high, I'll drop down to 20/30. My bait rig will have 20/30.
.. you can reel the leader thru your guides all the way back to the reel itself IF you're using the FG, PR, or any of the slim knots. I would just forget about swivels if you're gonna do SPJ as they are not needed. The entire leader up to where you can reach your catch is wound thru the guides. Swivels are a no go..
There is one exception. When you're assembling your jigs, you'll have the jig, a split ring, an assist hook and either solid ring OR a swivel. In that configuration, the swivel prevents spinning of the jig and you tie your leader's payload end directly to the swivel. I use a swivel and a clip for easy changing of the jigs.

I guess it's an "up north" thing... but what's with the silly paper clips to add more hardware? My brother said "it's a "tactical clip" to swap lures quick" (as he was even using them on his plugs).... My response was "looks like more gear, 'cuz you're too lazy to tie a knot"
I don't think the downsizing leader is really going to make much of a difference in current, unless you use a REALLY long one.
Your bro is 100% correct. Its the quickest way to change out lures. It also minimized getting yourself hooked by your own assist hooks too.
For the tuna rig, I'm going with the AVET JX G2, Daiwa Proteus 76H, 65/60. Hopefully that will be enough to handle some midrange Tuna that might come my way..

OK, you guys have officially replaced Key West on my bucket list!! Great catch man!! Hopefully a great meal too. Headed out next Saturday as the Blues and Stripers are in the mix off the Jersey Coast along with really big Fluke. Throw in Ling and a 2 fish limit on BSB's and Party Time!!..

The Keys are pretty fun though, never been to Key West, but I've been to Marathon (alot mellower, but good fishing) , Islamorada & Key Largo a few times and had good times always. but I'm sure its alot cheaper up here. Come in May if you do. Best weather and best fishing, offshore and inshore ... It's been HOT AS F*CK the past 2 weeks so dont come in July. lol. My cousin got some nice fluke in the bay on friday... I think Stripers are heading North. Not sure when I'm coming up, maybe the new moon the end of the month, but the Mets will be out of town then
