Jets fans look at optimism the way golfers look at sand traps. New York fans haven't given its fans much to cheer about since Rex Ryan roamed the sidelines, but that might change sometime in the near future after GM Joe Douglas added significant pieces to New York's roster. Douglas has equipped second-year QB Zach Wilson with a talented receiving corps that includes Wilson, Elijah Moore (a second-round pick in 2021), Corey Davis, Braxton Berrios, and former Bengal C.J Uzomah. Also at Wilson's disposal is an equally deep backfield, led by Michael Carter, rookie Breece Hall and former 49er Tevin Coleman. Coleman will reunite in New York with Tomlinson, a 2021 Pro Bowler with the 49ers who signed a three-year deal with Gang Green during free agency. The Jets put considerable resources into revamping a defense that allowed more points than any other team in 2021. They used the No. 4 overall pick in the draft to acquire Gardner, who did not give up a single touchdown in over 1,000 snaps at Cincinnati. Gardner will be flanked by veteran defensive backs Whitehead and D.J. Reed, who were acquired this offseason via free agency. Douglas also gave head coach Robert Saleh a new, promising pass rusher in Johnson, the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
The off-season could have been a lot worse. They may not have drafted everyone that people here wanted but overall they were praised for their draft. They also picked up some nice pieces in FA. There is definitely reason to believe they will be better than last year. How much better is the question. Fingers crossed.
A buddy of mine actually sent me this exact article earlier today. I guess all we can do now is just wait to see how it all comes together. It looks very promising, but I'm interested to see if Zach makes that jump. Just want to be competitive this year. Nothing big.
I think Joe D transformed this team more than an average GM could. Honestly even if we don't win as many games, I will still want him to stay as the GM. This offseason has been one of the best I remember as a Jets fan honestly.
LBJ took the IRT down to 4th Street USA. When he got there, what did he see? The youth of America on LSD. I wonder how many people recognize that reference ...
Jets are a much improved team. I finally have a little bit more faith in Douglas that he does maybe know what he's doing. It's coming together slowly but I do feel like it's coming together properly personnel wise. Still not sold on Saleh or Wilson. I'd be fine moving on from both if they stink up the joint in 2022 and go with a more veteran coach (whoever is out there) I would like to see Wilson at the very least be better than the 20th best starter in football this season. That would be good progress imho. The team is going to be competitive, fast, and hopefully they get some injury luck for once. I feel like they will end up a hard luck 6-11 or 7-10 team. Can't see them winning more than that with that schedule.
I guess the NFLN aren't big fans of the Jets. Prediction 3-14. NFL Network predicts outcome of every Jets game in 2022 (yahoo.com)
They can be well improved and be way more competitive than last year and also have the same exact record. Our first 9 games are absolutely brutal. If the season is over by week 5 again it is going be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG season for this regime.
I don't see how anyone can question the improvement of this roster. The problem is that this improved roster is probably facing the best AFC Conference as a whole in NFL history., Almost every team in the AFC is better than last year.
If Zach continues to improve combined with the additions JD made this offseason then I am guessing 6 wins as the floor. Maybe 8 or 9 if things go well. At some point we need to see results on the field. I don't know if the playoffs are realistic as the AFC is tough but I want to see them heading in the right direction. Another 3 or 4 win season and I will really start to question if this rebuild is working.
We put a lot of great pieces in place. Hopefully the FO has the guts to move on from Zach if he continues to stink as bad as he has.
