I saw a bunch of differemt types of storage cases on JohnnyJigs.com. I'll have to pick some up because I'm running out of space. Between my freshwater tackle and now the saltwater stuff, I have a ton of shit.

I got that one because its on sale..... I want simple and cheap. Dont need a fancy box to hold metal lures ;) plus I like it for the size. How many jigs do you really want to lug around on a fishing trip? I'f I burn through 12, I'm cutting my losses

Bag is nice and seems well made. One thing I dont like is the 2 outer pockets. I wsh it was just 1 large pocket, so a spool of leader would fit in. Larger mesh would be nice for dealing with hooks, but for $17 doubt you could do better

Headed out for Tilefish in a few weeks. What do you guys think of my rig: Temple Reef Innovate 78H, Daiwa SeaBorg 300MJ, 20/50. Will be fishing in 400ft plus. Jigs will be between 300 and 450g depending on conditions.

Sounds too fancy for me ;)

What are the regs for tilefish for you guys? I thought it was just 1 per person here (I could be wrong) and thats why no one really targets them (it's a long $ ride for that)
I'm guessing overnight trip? you should try and do one for tunas

7 goldens and I think 6 blueline.. My second trip in Aug is a 2-day run so maybe at night, we'll see some BFT's. Usually the boat will just not clean the Over and leave them in the bottom of your cooler. Last trip I came in heavy in Goldies..

Thanks.. I have a Shimano setup in mind. You think a Stella 6000 will be big enough? I also have a PENN that I think is a bit larger than the Stella.

No.... Possibly on smaller tuna or from a center console where you can chase the fish. Otherwise if you hook a big one you'll prob get smoked, or just cause a clusterF*ck ;)

I use a 8000 baitrunner for offshore here. For that I'd go Penn 8000 size (or something that can hold 300yds of 65# braid)..... hell, if you dont have one big enough score a used one off ebay, as it prob wont get used very often. I'm sure there's some spinfishers, or quantum Bocas on there for reasonable price

If you dont find something used, this is a good "cheap" option for one and done... not butter like your stella, and a bit heavy, but they're tanks for $150 Their sizing runs way bigger than shimano, fyi

    https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-bg-saltwater-spinning-reels.html

my brother has a smaller one for inshore that I use when I visit, and I gotta say, I was impressed (I just dont need any more spinners).... I liked the reel way more than the tsunami rod it was on

Saw a PENN Battle III 8000 for a reasonable price.. Is it worthy? What size BG good for Tuna? I do have a PENN Clash 6000 that will hold 300yds of 60# braid.

Saw a vis on the Penn Battalion. Guy called it a rattle trap and shook it around. Sounded awful. Take that for what it's worth.

All you fishermen may want to search out an article I saw today about a fishing tournament in Morehead City NC that paid out over five million in prizes a week ago, including a top prize of $3.5 million for a big blue marlin.

Prob a 6500 or 8000 (the weights are similar)? Hard to say.... schoolie tuna, your stella would prob be fine, but if you hook into a beast ;) I guess that Clash could work. I'm not too familiar with those, but I do like the much higher drag settings of the Daiwa BG (I never want to run full drag or you'll prob strip gears, and I'd guess you'd prob want to run 20# on a big one) but I''ve never got into that fishery, so I'd ask the capt their opinion.

I'll agree with mr. Bam, those battles are kinda Meh...... but if it dies after landing that one trophy fish....

I'll pass on the Battle III. Thanks for the headsup. The Clash looks like a winner as I really don't want to put too much money into tuna fishing as I don't do it very often. I already got #60lb 8-strand on the reel and its never been in the water so, essentially its brand new anyway. The guy from TD told me I would be good with my AVET JX Raptor G2/65# braid on a Daiwa Proteus Heavy conventional rod for chunking. l do prefer chunking over jigging as I've had more success with that style. There are some benefits to being a gear head after all... :)

yeah, that avet is totally fine.... and if you have the skills to cast that thing well and work a lure, it may be all you need. I just suggested a big spinner in case you have to make a solid cast to one..... and that I'm a sucker for topwater lure strikes :D
but yeah, I just caught that 150lb+ marlin on 40# mono (with 300yds of braid backing under).... granted it took over 2 hrs and involved alot of help from the captain ;)

I'm hoping there's another strong bluefin tuna run this year, so I get in on that action....cousin keeps asking when I'm coming up. I said "not until you catch a fish in the ocean, and not in the bay"

Was watching that tourney on TV. Saw a rather thick woman boat a 175lb sailfish!. Was very impressed although she was built like a Sherman tank! :)
