We're having a discussion about the worst pick JD's had, you can't "not care about the value of the picks". A wasted 11th overall pick is a lot worse than a wasted 4th round pick. If you spend $200k on a car that breaks right away and $20k on another that breaks right away which purchase would you feel worse about?
This assumes Becton won't be a pro bowl LT. I don't think that's a given yet. Becton has a ton of talent. The book isn't closed on him yet. It is on Captain Morgan.
I'll never really say that fourth round or later will ever be a GMs worst pick. I can hate them, I can feel awful but 4th rounders are potential squad rotation peices, not starters. However I'd say Mims is currently worse than Becton. Mims was the second round pick and has shown less so far in terms of production. I think mims and perine are key examples of Joe learning to stick with players he loves and why he took Hall this draft and not any RB later on. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
We passed this fork in the road a few posts back. I don't care what the calculator says. Talent is what defines success, that's it. James Morgan didn't have it, Becton did. One was an egregiously bad pick, the other made perfect sense. The one that makes perfect sense will never be worse than the egregiously bad one.
I agree with this and will add that JD will also try to draft players that his coaches want for their scheme. I think at least a small part of the issue with his first draft was listening to Gase+ on players like Mims, Perine, Davis & Zuniga.
Not good in pass protection though, (if you believe some scouting reports) which is the last thing we need. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Breece-Hall-RB-IowaState Ron
Breece Hall was an EXCELLENT draft choice. In fact, the question itself is silly. The very BEST weapon you can give a young QB is a potent running game. JD added a real live home run threat EVERY time he carries the ball. But it's not just Breece Hall. It's also the OL. A RB is only as good as his OL. If he's going to be successful carrying the ball, he NEEDS his OL to be potent as well. Well, if you have a good OL? You're probably going to have a decent passing game protecting OL. Coincidence? I think not. They both work hand in hand. A potent running game is a CONFIDENCE building exercise for any young QB. Not building the OL and running game constitutes MALPRACTICE. It constitutes you becoming MIKE MACAGNAN.....
Love hearing good things about Breece Hall during OTA's... I predict Breece is gonna slot nicely into our offense. Is he signed yet?
I got to meet him Monday during the media photo shoots. He’s already one of my favorite Jets. Seems like he and Garrett are already buddies.
I like the pick. I'm a throwback to having two quality backs like Freeman McNeil and Johnny Hector. Two good backs can nicely compliment one another.
I was fortunate to be in close proximity to Breece, Tevin Coleman, Perine and Michael Carter and Breece is noticeably bigger. Personally speaking, my excitement about him being drafted has only increased having been around him. Easy going, personable, kid. I'm no scout, but he sure seems legit. I'm pumped.
