I'll add that he not only has the plan but an ability to execute it. You could argue that Idzik had a plan, he just had no fucking clue how to execute it.
The question reads do the jets have a better roster than three years ago ? Though 75% say yes, there are still some naysayers and doubters out there. so let me rephrase it a bit, would anybody take the roster from 3 years ago over the roster Joe has put together as of right now ? this should not even be a question, it should be 100% yes. some people want to see a translation into wins first. That skepticism is certainly fair, because of our history. One can’t predict the future. Nobody knows impact of injuries or maybe just some players not meeting expectations, but that is down the road and is not an answer to the question as presented.
The biggest thing for me is JD clearly has a plan and is building the team and the FO according to that plan. Now you can argue whether the plan is working or not and the jury is out but I've never felt more confident in a Jets FO. I'm fine with letting JD keep building this up the way he sees fit
On paper they definitely look improved but "on paper" doesn't mean a thing. Start showing me the wins starting in Sept thru Dec. With any luck Jan and beyond although I don't expect the playoffs this season.
The roster is unquestionably better since JD has taken over. Does this translate into wins, that remains to be seen
The only Jets player to make the pro bowl since Joe Douglas has taken over was Jamal Adams and he traded him away. The best player on the roster is Quinnen Williams, who was already here 3 years ago when he took over
I can see some of Joe's draft picks signing big FA contracts with some other team a decade from now, after a wonderful probowl career on the Jets
He stripped down the roster and then built it back up. That takes time. The players he drafted and signed have to perform now. On paper, it looks like he has improved the roster. We just have to see it on the field now.
It would be nice not to go 0-6 in the division again. We have to start beating our rivals and go from there. Show me the wins. I really don't care to be the champions of April, May, and June. It's Sept thru Dec that count. Do well there then they will have an opportunity to play in Jan.
It appears as if it is vastly improved -- The performance ON the field needs to show it. They're well-rounded on defense with an impact player on every level of the defense. They're well-rounded on offense. Solid offensive line, 3 deep at tight end, have depth at WR, and added a homerun threat to the backfield.
QB is in year 2. Pass rush just added two guys... one who is already a proven pass rusher at the pro level and one who most scouts think will be. Tackle is a TBD if I've ever seen one. If Fant is healthy he's very far from weak unless you're talking about the entire LT depth chart. Basically you can't label all three of those areas weaknesses right now if you're evaluating on a logical plane.
I wouldn't say weakness -- I'd say unknown, mainly for the QB position. I'd say the 2 biggest weaknesses on this team are at LB and S since we know what those players are.
The roster is better. But it's not good. Three years ago, the roster was one of the worst in the league; we're improved, but we're still one of the worst in the league.
