Accurate 300 or 500N spj reels.. Or if you want to fly first class.. Shimano Ocea Jigger 2000. Nothing you might hit in LIS will be able to beat that setup.
or if you want to save a few bucks if you're not going to use it alot.... Shimano Torium, Daiwa Saltist, Penn Fathom, Seigler SGN (a bit more than the others) Cman's taste is WAY more gucci than mine when it comes to fishing stuff
$180 I bought the rod by accident. I didn't realize that the color determined the rod power. I just saw blue and said "Oh, that's cool looking!" I didn't realize it was their heaviest rod. I just want a jigging/bottom set up and since I already had the rod I was am looking to pair it with an appropriate rod. It will definitely be overkill for fluke and other LIS bottom feeding fish. I'd like to keep the cost of the reel under $200.
Well, the Shimano Torium 14 or 16 should fit the bill for a good quality reel in your price range. You may have to go a bit over a deuce though.

I *almost* forgot how expensive fishing tackle is when you add everything up. I'm starting from ground zero when it comes to saltwater inshore fishing. I have thousands invested in freshwater rods, reels and tackle. The biggest mistake I made when I started buying freshwater tackle was buying junk that I eventually replaced once I knew better. I think of it like tools. Buy the good stuff and buy it once. I'm really happy with the casting and live bait combos I got. The Jigging rod was a mistake but I want to pair it with a good reel. I'm $5k deep in a fishing kayak so I might as well just rip the rest of the bandaid off
It took a long time, and alot of junk sitting in the corner of my garage to learn that lesson Also, dont buy freshwater stuff.... buy smaller / lighter saltwater stuff.... but I've used "freshwater" gear to fish inshore salt.... eventually may corrode, then just get new stuff btw.... I have three upper cabinets (from kitchen remodel) hanging in the garage full of fishing tackle.... that doesnt include probably 20 rods (w/ reels)... gaffs, fish bags, bullshit....
I bought all of my freshwater stuff starting 25 years ago when I never dreamed I'd own a kayak that I could fish from. Also, I really don't like spinning reels. All my freshwater bass stuff is baitcasting. I'm so comfortable with them. Here's a question for you. When I freshwater fish for largemouth bass, I cast with my right hand and reel with my left. I never like changing hands to reel after the cast. When I buy a reel for my jigging rod, should it be left handed or right handed?
Personal preference really.... I just fish spinning reels inshore, and conventionals for trolling and bottom fishing. I have right handed reels, but due to a wrist injury / chronic condition (that will do nothing but get worse... I wear a wrist brace to basically do everything laborious ) I've been considering switching to a lefthand reel for my slow-pitch jigging (turning the handle is easier than working the rod/jig), may get a used one to test my theory so basically get whatever feels best
When my dad used to charter offshore boats for our fishing trips, I always used their gear and it was always right hand retrieve. I can retrieve with either hand but I just didn't like casting and then switching the rod to my left hand to retrieve. Spinning reels you can switch. Conventional you can't. This will be a tough decision for me. I think I'm going to go right handed for the jigging rod.
Just be aware the SPJ is highly addictive. Once hooked, you could easily find the better gear as you get better at it. $$$

I ended up ordering a new rod to use for slow pitch jigging. I'm going to sell the Goofish. Too much rod for what I'm fishing for. I ordered a Tsunami 7' SPJ and paired it with a Maxel Hybrid star drag reel.
Brother is down to visit for a few days..... ran all over the ocean in my lil boat yesterday. Caught 1 Bonita (false albacore) Gonna try first light topwater action inshore from the kayaks tommorrow (drank too many beers last night) then hopefully back in the ocean on wednesday to turn that bonehead into something to eat
