A series split and a series loss makes it look worse than it actually is. I don't think 9-8 is really indicative of how this team is playing. There's been maybe 2 games this year where they're just completely out of it. They fight tooth and nail every game.

This team is still 9-1-1 in series this season and is 10 games above .500 before the results of today. They're in a 3 way tie for the 2nd best record in baseball.

That's because they started 14-5. I think they've looked considerably worse in the last 17 than they looked in the first 19. I actually think the 9-1-1 in series is what is misleading - it's mostly been fluky for weeks. In my view they need to start playing better (what we've seen through 8 innings in game 1 would count).

A 162 game season has it's ups and downs though. Guys get hot and cold all year round. If their bad baseball is playing .500 then they're in great shape.

You see flukey, I see a team that fights and claws their way to wins. That's the making of a great team.

And again, one series split and a series loss accounts for 4 of those losses.

Really nice win against one of the Cards' better pitchers with a bullpen game.

Scarier ending than desired, but one down. Now they need to take the second game.

What a sad ending! Though this seems like a pretty light sentence.

Escobar thus far has been a total bust. Get it together dude!

And there you go - one step forward, one step back, just the way it's been for weeks.

That entire inning was on Nido. Yes, Escobar should’ve made the play but Nido’s inability to catch a fucking ball as a catcher turned a walk into a “triple”.

Would love for Lindor to get a clutch hit at some point in his Mets career

Have seen enough of Lindor to know he's never gonna live up to his contract? When you think about it might be one of the worst contracts in all of MLB. Maybe all sports! We are stuck with him for a long time to come!

As of now, it has to be one of the worst contracts in all of sports.

I would be worried about Lindor if we didn't have Cohen as the owner. That guy isn't going to let this one contract stop him from spending. Unfortunate for Lindor too because he started the season well. He's gotta be batting .150 this month of May

Wow. Carlos Beltran. Next time he says something interesting and insightful will be the first time. And this guy is manager material. Suzyn Waldman has more to say.

Not ideal Max. On his way off the field he didn’t point to his elbow once. Saw a twitter clip where he said it’s tight it’s tight again. Then he pointed to his oblique area. Hopefully it isn’t anything serious…

"Left side discomfort." Oblique injuries can be minor, and can be weeks or months, so who knows. MRI tomorrow.

Polar Bear puts it out of reach (well, it better be out of reach) with a three-run rocket.

Should the Mets start lengthening Lugo to prepare to be a starter again?
