Tom Brady joining Fox Sports after NFL retirement

Tom Brady’s life after football just got a little clearer.

Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced on Tuesday that Brady agreed to a long-term deal with the network and will be Fox Sports’ lead NFL analyst when he retires.

Brady will work alongside Kevin Burkhardt whenever his NFL career ends.
“Over the course of this long-term agreement, Tom will not only call our biggest NFL games with Kevin Burkhardt, but will also serve as an ambassador for us, particularly with respect to client and promotional initiatives,” Fox Sports said in a statement.

The seven-time Super Bowl champ briefly called it a career in February before announcing 40 days later that he’d be returning to the Buccaneers for his 23rd NFL season.

Brady, 44, wrote Tuesday on Twitter that while he’s “excited” about his post-NFL venture, there’s “a lot of unfinished business on the field” with the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers were bounced from the playoffs in January following a NFC Divisional round loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Rams. Two months later, head coach Bruce Arians announced he’d be shifting to a front-office job, with former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles being named his successor.

The Brady news comes after Fox Joe Buck and Troy Aikman departed the network for ESPN.

Buck and Aikman, who have called more than 300 games together for Fox, will slide into the “Monday Night Football” booth on Sept. 12.

I said that to a buddy once, after having a few cocktails.

    He thought I was crazy.

Whenever anything with him comes on, I immediately change the channel.

Too bad Verizon doesn't have a TB12 filter.

Hard to imagine a bigger waste of money than that. What exactly is the value added of this clown? Who exactly is going to say "You know, I was going to watch that Bills-Chiefs game on CBS, but instead I'll watch Fox because dreamy Tommy Boy is the color guy." Or "My kid is playing their soccer game today, but I'll skip that to watch Brady and make kissy-face noises at the screen." Do the networks really not understand that people watch games for the players and the teams, not the commentators?

First off, fuck Tom Brady and everything that he represents.

Well said. I wonder what is the fringe benefit the color commentators bring overall. Does anybody really stop watching the game they want to watch because of a color guy? I don't know. But I will avoid listening to this shit bag as much as possible.

Well I enjoyed Romo breaking down in real-time, pre-snap the defense, pointing out the hot reads, etc and that was all coming from an average/good recent practitioner of the most important position on the field. Give me that but coming from one of recognised 'best ever' at that kind of thing in Brady or Peyton then I'd certainly be interested.

Mind you I'm not skipping Jets games for it or choosing a Bears Vs Lions scenario over a KC Vs Bills game and as the game moves on schematically then the value of the ex-QB's knowledge becomes less valuable/poignant.

Theyre radically over paying hoping they have their Tony Romo (who is great IMO)..... but biases aside listening to Brady and his whiny voice, I dont see that translating well at all

Exactly what I think as well, but Romo's wearing a bit thin now - for me anyway. I can't see Brady having anyhere near the personality to pull it off in the same way. I suspect they lose big time on this deal. Except Brady, of course, who is some lucky mfer and can roll in all types of shit yet come up smelling of roses and squeaky clean every time. You have to think (hope) that karma catches up with him big time at some point.

I like Romo. He's great relaying the game for those watching without a strong understanding and seems like a likeable / relatable guy that most people would like to have a beer with (sorry Tony, Corona sucks)...

Brady on the other hand is just a douche

I seem to be in a minority, but I can't stand Romo's commentary. He sounds like he's trying to say everything at once. And since when was it their job to predict what was going to happen? I want to watch the game, not listen to some overly enthusiastic, high-pitched show-off play a personal game of 'How many plays can I guess'? STFU, a bit, could you, Tony?

    Gives me a headache.

Maybe he'll wear a seaweed suit on national tv. This dude is such a flake, it could have a lot of entertainment value.

Troy Aikman was America's hero for a while and now he is a drunken lout. Look at the bright side, guys.

Teaming Brady with Kevin Burkhardt is a smart move.

Burkhardt is a solid pxp announcer and can carry the booth.
