I have talked a lot about our defense lacking an identity and it seems that with the free agent signings of DJ Reed, Jordan Whitehead and the draft picks of Clemons and Johnson that the Jets brass wants the identity of the defense to be VIOLENCE. Not in a reckless manner, but in a way that is jarring and intense. What do you all think of our two new rookie defensive ends who have seemed to both have the same message. My God I hope this defense can turn the corner this year!
The Jets have been soft for a long time. They need to toughen up and these moves do this; especially Clemons and Whitehead.
Yes, I mentioned in another thread that I can't remember the last time the Jets had anyone who actually intimidated anyone. I hope this finally ends that drought.
Actually we were the # Actually we were the #10 ranked defense after 3 games last year, then it all fell apart. This year we are a much better team on paper. When you think of what we added to the defense this year, Lawson, Johnson, Reed, Whitehead, Jointer , Sauce, Martin, Clemens, Thomas, that's 6 new starters that are upgrades over last year . Now all we have to do is stay healthy & produce on the field. We definitely have the horses to make it work. If we stay healthy, I expect a top 10 - 15 defense, which would be a massive improvement over last year's 32nd ranking.
We won't have a Championship defense like poof...cmon now let's get real lol Again the Mania continues to run more rampant than wildfire on TGG because we drafted a bunch of pro bowlers on paper The Coaching Staff has been handed a Caviar of players but there is nothing I see in Ulbricht or Saleh that would cause me to light some fireworks or throw the confetti
It fell apart because the players broke down and the Coaching was abysmal ...the past is history but the futures a mystery tbh
Claiming a new identity is a lot like giving yourself a nickname. Lets see what this new and improved defense actually does on the field first.
am hoping 2 corners turned... out of bottom quartile and then again out of 3rd quartile... (ranked 16th or higher)
This video didn't suggest that we would have a championship defense. It spoke about a new identity to this defense.
I miss Rex's swagger. "You hit one of our players, we'll hit two of yours". And he meant it. Our D had (short lived) nickname "Band of lunatics" for a good reason! Not quite as good as "we'll bite your kneecaps" but a close second!
He was good, but what the Jets need right now is another Damon Harrison to plug up the middle. Of course, Saleh uses a 4-3 and would probably prefer lighter more mobile DTs. That said, the problem still exists. Jets run defense was very porous last year, so Saleh and Ulbrich better have a fix this year.
Really want to see some aggressive players on the pitch again. We've got 6 new players all starting pretty much as a few didn't really play last year. I want to see fast, in your face football. Expect to see the unit in the 10-20 range this year. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
While it will take some time for these players to gel I am feeling pretty good about the defensive line, the cornerbacks, and CJ Mosely. Our biggest concern seems to be the safeties and any linebacker not named Mosely. Tight ends, screen passes, and running quarterbacks ripped us to shreds last year. The tough schedule we landed will put us to the test.
