1.4 Sauce Gardner: No Senior Bowl (Junior) 1.10 Garrett Wilson: No Senior Bowl (Junior) 1.26 Jermaine Johnson II: Senior Bowl (Lions) 2.36 Breece Hall: No Senior Bowl (Junior) 3.101 Jeremy Ruckert: Senior Bowl (Jets) 4.111 Max Mitchell: Senior Bowl (Lions) 4.117 Michael Clemons: Senior Bowl (Lions) 4 of the Jets 7 Selections were Senior Bowl players. No surprises there, really lucky to be coaching that game this year.
When it was going on I thought "yeah... that's cool". I didn't think it'd be such a large influence on our selections. Hope it pans out.
I made a post about it back when it was announced, and how many players the 49ers took in 2019 were part of the Senior Bowl when they coached it. I predicted the Jets could take as many as 4-5 Senior bowl players this year.
Actually I predicted 5-7, but the jets had more picks back then: https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/49ers-2019-senior-bowl-draft-picks.96945/ The 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel and Dre Greenlaw who were Senior Bowl players that year.
Looks like Clemons was assigned to a team, but never showed up for Sr Bowl, not sure why: https://www.seniorbowl.com/assets/pdf/2022-RSB-Flip-Card-w-Measurements.pdf
I think every team took at least one player from the senior bowl. Some took more than the Jets, I believe the Eagles may have had 6. Perhaps it was just a good year for seniors?
Says he was part of it here, so who knows. https://sports.yahoo.com/4-takeaways-jets-drafting-micheal-171304985.html
I had seen something, don't remember where, that said he was there and took part in the workouts but decided not to play in the game; didn't say why.
Actually, I expected more of an impact and am surprised how many Lions' coached players we took rather than ones we coached. When are they going to allow Juniors in the Senior Bowl?
I saw this: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/micheal-clemons-texas-am-de-nfl-draft-scouting-report-2022/ "After failing to appear at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Clemons’ NFL Combine performance will be particularly important. But just watching the tape, teams who like big, athletic pass rushers on their defensive line should be in the market for Clemons on Day 3. He only adds to the depth of this class, and he could go on to be a great value deal in his limited prime years." This is corroborated by the fact there were no measurements on him from the official site, while everyone else, including JJ was there. I just don't see how he would come in, not measure, then practice, but then leave without actually playing. Looks like Jets just liked him regardless of Sr Bowl. If between him and Max one becomes a good player, we should be fine.
I heard an interview fron Naggy, and he said he got sick and that was the reason for him not participating. Naggy also said he loved both day 3 selections from the draft.
