easy question, which pick at 4 would you hate the most. for me it's sauce. it literally makes 0 sense. I'm only listing people who it's possible we could pick, even somewhat long shots if they fell
Hamilton for sure but take him out of the equation and there's a tie between Ickey, JJ, Neal and Walker all depending on who is on the board when we pick.
This. You've got four other potential 1st round picks off of that college defense (including two other defensive linemen) and you're gonna take the guy literally nobody was talking about before the combine?
TGG folks are getting smarter! The only 3 options with zero 'hate' picks are in the trenches.....Ekwonu, Hutch, Neal. With Hutchinson most likely gone by 4, I think we'll be welcoming either Ek or Neal to our team (and saying adios to Fant). Perfect!
Hamilton based on positional value, then Sauce based on positional value with the scheme we run defensively + I don't think he is a good enough CB prospect to take over any of KT/JJ/Icky/Walker/Hutch (in a dream)
Without a doubt, it’s Ekwonu for me. That pick would make zero sense to me. Could live with most other picks.
As someone who started the off-season where you’re at, let me say: by week 15 we lost 2 starting tackles and our entire offense was crippled. Worst case if we do draft OT at 4: we have 3 monster OTs on the roster who stay healthy, limiting playing time for Becton, Fant, and/or IKY Worst case if we don’t draft OT at 4: We don’t find a quality OT later. Fant or Becton gets injured giving Chuma or McDermitt playing time. Any game that EITHER OT misses should be penciled in a L.
Neal has a real question mark now that must be addressed . I hate another after the fact bitch by some Jet fans “JD should have know better about this, there were signs pre-draft about him “cough, cough, cough, like is being done now with Becton.
Eh this is a pretty bad outcome though. #4 overall is insanely valuable capital to be spending on a part time player, and OT's don't really get winded like DL do so you generally just want the best 2 guys playing every snap. I've somewhat come around on the idea of Ickey at #4, just because I think the writing's on the wall with Becton and I don't think the coaches have any faith in him. I think ultimately the move should be to take an OT in the 2nd round and make him compete with Becton for a starting job though. It solves the motivation issue with Becton without blowing #4 overall to do so, and a high 2nd round OT has a real chance at starting quickly and being a good player if Becton can't figure it out.
Jameson Williams is the only name on that list that there is no legitimate argument to make that he is a top 5 prospect and worthy of that draft slot.
There could be better outcomes but I’d hardly call it a bad one. We wouldn’t be spending #4 on a part time player. We would be spending $9mm/yr on a swing tackle We would be (possibly) auditioning Becton for a high value trade We would be making doubly sure Zach has every opportunity to showcase his talents. It may not be ideal for your vision of the Jets, but It wouldn’t be a bad thing to draft Iky at 4.
Agree completely. Best case we have two top notch tackles locked at starter position for the next 4-5 years. Worst case, we have one long term rookie and Fant keeping Wilson well protected. Not too bad of an option. Too bad there is so much uncertainty with Becton. Same scenario if we pick Sauce actually. Someone will become third best. Yet you can’t reach for a position of need and fail.
