Regarding CBs and our scheme we might get as much value out of a guy like Tariq Woolen -- 6' 4" sub 4.3 40 the defense is predicated on pressure on the QB -- hurrying passes, disrupting decision making, and CBs moving forward (better chance of Ints) i just don't see the benefit of investing a first round pick for a CB in this system.
I feel like we've spent much of the last decade going "well if we give X player at Y position some help in the form of W player at Z position then X player will finally shine". If we give Leonard Williams/Quinnen help on the edge they'll really shine. If we give Darnold better weapons he'll really shine. We just need to draft better players. Great players don't need everything around them to be perfect to produce. Though I do agree with your point that we don't need to draft a CB high this year.
To be fair the Jets have needed a top EDGE for 15 years now. They never did give Leonard any outside help and so far none for Q although Lawson got hurt. I think last years CBs played pretty well all considered. I think they deserve another year before the Jets start spending high picks over there. Beef up the safeties and the pass rush. But that’s just my opinion.
Agree 100%. The degree to which we've neglected edge and receiver in the first round is just unfathomable. Two of the most important positions in the game and we act like they don't matter at all.
