1st round #4 Ours Travon Walker DE Georgia 6-5 272 Can’t have enough edge rushers. Carl Lawson has only 2yrs left on his contract, - could possibly go down again & we really need to find a long-term edge solution. JFF is a tweener inside DT & outside DE - plus we could legitimately cut him after 2022 season & save $$ against cap. Walker had outstanding measurables at combine. Fastest 40 for D-Linemen w/great 10split + size + long arms & big hands. I think he’ll be more reliable than Kayvon & as good as Hutchinson. Great upside. The only question === is he really BPA or are we stretching the need since we've never had a dominant pass rusher? 1st round #10 – from Seattle Drake London WR USC 6-4 219 Wasn’t a fan of Garrett Wilson’s size. And it just seems to me that London is more fluid than Treylon Burks (Arkansas). London getting 88 catches in 8 games tells me he can be the best friend a QB could have & can take over a game. My problem is getting hurt last year but also that a lot of his #s are inflated vs PAC-12 defenses. He did show up vs Utah & Notre Dame. But I believe w/his measurables – he has a chance to dominate as WR1 (e.g. Mike Evans) 2nd round #35 Ours Lewis Cine S Georgia 6-2 200 Jordan Whitehead is not really a strong safety. He’s more FS. I would LOVE to see what Jason Pinnock could do if we gave him a full season. But Cine is too much value at 35 for us to pass on him. I have zero confidence that Joyner is going to make it through his 1yr contract anyway. Dont get me started on Ashtyn Davis. #38 from Carolina (Sam Darnold) Travis Jones DT UConn 6-4 326 I really wanted to keep Foley. I’m partial to tough run defenders & he was 1 of the only bright spots from past years’ draft = 6th rounder in 2018. But am happy to see him get $paid$. Ironically, - I’d like to see us go back to Foley’s alma mater UConn to help fix our horrible run D last year. We might be letting Sheldon Rankins go for CAP reasons as well. Will likely need another draft pick investment on the D-line. 3rd round #69 Ours Quay Walker ILB/OLB Georgia 6-4 242 Sorry it’s a run on Georgia players, - but they’ve recruited the best players in the nation. We don’t have much in the LB department. Quincy Williams is playing admirably but Salah’s D is more often 4-2-5. We need quick/fast LBs but we also need size & strength (evident by our terrible run support this past year). When I watch Quay Walker, - I see KJ Wright. 4th round --- we don’t have our own --- NYJ pick was traded to Seattle part of the Jamal Adams trade 4th round --- from Carolina (Sam Darnold) ---- the first pick of the 4th round is about # 106 overall Carolina 5-12 record projected to be overall pick #111 Damone Clark ILB LSU 6-3 245 Unfortunately for Clark - he just had spinal fusion surgery for a herniated disk. Reports say it’s possible he will miss his rookie year. Fortunately for us, - he drops in the draft when he was legit top 2nd round value. IMO we are 1 year from competing for playoff spot. Therefore, it’s in our interests for long-term value w/the extra pick we got for the Sam Darnold trade. CJ Mosley is a goner after this season. Could be a great opportunity for Clark to step in for 2023. 4th round --- from Minnesota (Chris Herndon) ---- 9-8 record projected to be overall pick # 117 Isaiah Spiller RB Texas A&M 6-0 217 Better overall game player than the #s he put up at the combine. Solid healthy 3yr track record. MIGHT have a little too much wear on the treads. But a 2-3 man rotation is where the league is going – days of the feature back are over. 5th round ------- the first pick of the 5th round is about # 145 overall Jets pick – projected to be overall pick # 147 Jalen Wydermyer TE Texas A&M 6-4 257 I know, I know – I practically went all SEC. Similar to Spiller above as he is a better overall game player than the #s he put up at the combine. Its actually worse = his measurables really stink. But arguably top 2 production TE in the SEC. Was the Aggies top receiver = great game day hands & always seems to sneak around & find the open spot. Just dropping in the draft because he is getting over-analyzed (ala Trey Smith OG Tennessee last spring). Definitely worth it for us to take him at this point – he has 2 starters ahead of him for his rookie year to sit, watch & learn. His real problem is inability to contribute to special teams.
Thanks for the write up. I am not a college football fan. I barely watch football on Saturdays. But based on what I read so far, I can say I am not a fan of Walker at 4 and not a fan of London at 10. I rather see OT at 4 and Hamilton at 10. If Hamilton is gone then JJ. If he is gone than Wilson.
Good effort but I just don’t see it shaking out that way. Walker will be gone within the top 3 and London is a land mine.
Very good mock! Too bad the Jets can't draft the entire Georgia defense. There's no other player like Jordan Davis.
