Taking one last shot at the spring Blackfish run. Headed out on April 23rd on the Norma-K III out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ. Hopefully the Ocean will be nice and calm... Hopefully..
One think I forgot to add... our best bottom fishing is usually between 120-150. Starts around 100' for the BIG snappers
ran down to Matanzas inlet and threw a gotcha plug for 45 min... one bluefish, one spanish mackerel. Wish I went rt at sunrise, water color sure changed for the worse as the tide ran out the inlet... now back in front of the computer
Read that the spring striper run has started off the Jersey Coast so I'll bring an SPJ rod with me as well as my go to Blackfish rod.
Everything's starting early down here too.... water temps were below average... then jumped 10 degrees in a week. Fish are 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule My brother up there is trying to find a boat.... anyone in the LI area selling a 17-20' cc? Used but no junk. mid 2000s? yammy or zuke 4 stroke
Have your brother check out the classified ads in "the Fisherman" magazine. He should be able to find something there.
Headed out tomorrow for Blackfish and Cod. I'll be on the Norma-K III out of Point Lookout Beach, NJ. First time on this boat so itsa adventure wrapped around a fishing trip. Even wifey signed on which is a shock since she's not real fond of Blackfish's Teeth. They look too much like people teeth for her...LOL Will be bringing a light P1 SPJ rod along with my standard Blackfish Rod since we'll be fishing between 60-100 ft. Hopefully we'll put a few in the box for dinner.
Rigged out to da max.... you're gonna be super stoked on that thing! I think your depthfinder may even be bigger than the one in my 17' boat You order the custom seaDek package or did it come with it? You'll like having it, especially keeping thing quiet while sight fishing. I put some in mine, but cut it myselft from sheets (and finished on the router.) I expect to see pics of big stripers on there btw... downsize those pics man.... takes forever to load
Sorry about the picture size. Hard to tell on Tapatalk as it automatically realizes images to fit the app. I ordered the Marine Mat as an accessory. They don't come with them. When. I had my SeaDoo Challenger 2000 jet boat I installed similar decking and thought it was well worth the money. When I saw someone who had it on their Hobie I was all over it. It might take me a while to land some strippers. I've never fished for them before and have never fished the Sound either. I may have a connection though and this guy has been fishing strippers out of LI Sound (CT side) for 5 years now, also from a kayak. So hopefully I can hook up with him and he can show me the ropes. I'm going to screw around with the Lorance today and learn my way around it. The manual is pretty thick
ehhh.... it's just fishing, you'll figure it out. Troll a diving plug and a big soft paddle tail back there and go get 'em
Just a bit of advice before you get yourself in trouble, especially if you're married, Bick - figure out if you're trying to land strippers or stripers before you throw a lot of money at either. It could save you quite a bit of money, aggravation and pain.
Saw this a few days ago and was impressed. I guess you don't need lots of $$$$ to be a successful fisherman.
Fished inshore early yesterday from the kayak..... sunrise topwater bite was on fire for an hour... Lure getting blasted by slot sized redfish and trout, but I couldnt get a hook-up. Then as the sun rose, I followed the tide in and got a few small flounder, and one 16" keeper...
Against my better judgement I went out in my rowboat last week. 20 mph winds with gusts to 30 mph. You know what that is like in a Jon boat? With every cast I was blown 10 yards down wind. Rowing back into the wind was like doing the running man. At one point I wasn't even moving. The water in the reservoir is still in the mid 50's and I fish for bass. No luck whatsoever. I did manage to catch a "river snake" on my way back to shore. The res is loaded with them.
Went offshore yesterday.... met them at the dock at 4:30..... got home at 8:30. I'm cooked today.... and alot on the schedule too. (work, and shit) KInda slow....2 smallish mahi..... then.... a BLUE MARLIN. I fought that thing for 3 hours. Body hurts today. details later
