No I dont think Mac Jones would've taken the Jets to the playoffs but I also dont think Zach Wilson would've taken New England to the playoffs.

At the end of the day we both have young QBs with issues but they found a way to make it work with theirs and the Jets havent

Wilson made progress throwing from the pocket and working within the offensive scheme. He also reduced his interceptions and made better decisions late in the season. Sam also showed some improvement at the end of his rookie season, but regressed from that point. Wilson has shown an ability to learn from his mistakes and improve his skills during his football career. Let's hope the trend continues.

    Pats
    Points allowed: 2nd
    Yards allowed: 4th

    Jets
    Points allowed: 32nd
    Yards allowed: 32nd

I'd say that's more than half of the formula to "making it work" with a rookie QB.

I'd rather have Zach Wilson than Mac Jones any day of the week.

We were coming off a one win season they were coming off a 7 win season and spent the most in FA. Not exactly the same. I think Zach would have been close to Herbert like on that Pats team.

Except on sundays. Like Sunday Sept 19th, when Zach Wilson threw 4 INTs and lost to Mac Jones 25-6
    or
Sunday Oct 24th, When Mac Jones put up 54 points to beat Zach Wilson & the Jets again

other than those embarrassing differences though, yeah Wilson is better. oof

Jones was 14th in air yards per attempt, as I said in the post you responded to. Yet you still are pushing the dink and dunk narrative. Incredible.

I watched every play of every game. Wilson's only real improvement after returning from injury was that he avoided interceptions. That's great in a vacuum, but it's not like he avoided them while slinging the ball all over the place. He avoided them because he was asked to essentially never push the ball downfield. Now, that's definitely better than throwing lots of interceptions, but we can't act like Wilson was racking up yards and TDs while avoiding picks.

I never said Wilson is bad, I said he had a bad rookie season, which a lot of people here are trying to argue against. It's totally illogical. I'm not going to twist myself into a pretzel trying to rationalize bad play just because Wilson was my guy before the draft.

Why does everyone keep bringing Darnold up? We get it, Darnold was awful. I was legitimately telling everyone Darnold was terrible YEARS before most of our fans admitted it, because I avoided the homer group-think and trusted what my eyes and the data told me and didn't make endless excuses.

The people saying Wilson had a fine rookie season or that rookie seasons don't matter are doing the same thing Darnold defenders did. There's always a new excuse.

This isn't to say Wilson is going to be bad his entire career or anything, but if your conclusion regarding his rookie season is anything other than "it was bad" then you're lying to yourselves.

The Jets were 30th in time of possession. It's almost as if your opponents tend to score less points when they have the ball less often because you're able to effectively rack up first downs on offense.

Now, the defense was horrible all by itself, too, but there are many factors that play into this whole equation, and having an offense that can't consistently move the chains is one of them.

    Reality check.

Zach Wilson was ranked last among starting QBs.
Mac Jones made the pro bowl, and finished two votes behind Chase in OROY voting.

Its not even a realistic debate which QB was clearly better in 2021.

Does being a "true Jets fan" mean you have to think Wilson was better than Jones?
    or
Is Mac Jones TGGs new Josh Allen, where we don't admit he's good until year 4?

Jones didn't beat Wilson. The Patriots beat the Jets.

Huh! Funny. When I watched those games there were 10 other guys on the field when they were. Oh, nevermind, I'm sure that had nothing to do with the:rolleyes: outcome.

On one hand you claim you're not saying "Wilson was bad", but on the other hand you're saying that anyone who tries to put context around what most of us agree was a bad season are saying that he had a good season, that we're trying to twist it into something it wasn't. Check your fingers: when you pint the finger at someone lese, there's three pointing back at you.

And if all you can take from his rookie season with a rookie CS is "It was a bad season", you're the one spinning the half truths.

It feels better to say that I guess but Jones sure looked like a winning QB in those games

Saying Jones made the Pro Bowl is kinda ridiculous. Many QB's dropped out and he went by default. Really shouldn't use that in your argument. Not to mention the Pro Bowl has become a joke.

Zach Wilson started the season really poorly with a new Head Coach and new Offensive Coordinator, on a team that went (2-14) the year before. He clearly was not set up to succeed. The Patriots spent the most money ever on free agents after going (7-9) the year before, while having the greatest Head Coach of All Time and an Offensive Coordinator who would become a Head Coach in less than a year. Jones was beyond set up to succeed.

Comparing them one on one, or QB to QB by stats or wins is ridiculous. It's not understanding how football works. Wilson had a pretty typical rookie season. Took time to get adjusted and then started to look good down the stretch. Jones looked comfortable much sooner, as he should, in a much more comfortable situation.

I would rather have Zach Wilson as my QB for the long run, while it is fair and obvious to say Mac Jones had the better 2021 season because of many factors (including he played pretty well).

2022 will give us a much better evaluation on both QB's.

By this logic I could argue that Hamsah Naserleen was better than Micah Parsons.

Come one guys. Its true that 2022 will get us closer to the final evaluation. But ATM Jones is WAY better than Wilson. This is Darnold/Allen all over again, except this time its nowhere near as close after their rookie years.

Also, can we draft an actual LB this year?

what an idiot you are. they mean in the future Nasrildeen will be better than Parsons. Its not based on their performances at all. duh :D
