Hello JETS fans, i want to take you back to a time long ago when football was played by men who made a difference on defense. For those younger fans who were not born or too young to know about the JETS defense back then , let me introduce you to 4 outstanding linemen that were so dominating, they were given the name, The New York Sack Exchange. 4 intimidating players, #73 Joe Klecko, #99 Mark Gastineau, #93 Marty Lyons, and #74 Abdul Salaam. In 1982 many defensive NFL records became a stat due to high volume of QB sacks. The Jets were a force to be dealt with. This 2022 season will mark 40 yrs that the JETS fearsome foursome were known as the NY SACK EXCHANGE. My favorite player was Joe Klecko. He was from my home town of Chester, Pa. And even though Mark Gastineau got most of the nationwide tv attention, it was Joe Klecko that was the anchor veteran of the defense. I feel that Joe Klecko should be in the NFL Hall Of Fame.
As a new member go and search for Joe Klecko and you will pull up some quite interesting threads to read. It will even amuse you as one Jets fan will try and tell you Klecko was not a good player at all, seriously that person exists lol Welcome to the site btw 83 was the start of being a Jets fan for me.
Klecko was the best player I've ever seen play for the Jets. I did not see Namath in his prime or Maynard at all but I think they're the only other players in the running for best Jet of all time.
Welcome to the board my friend. I am a newer Jets fan compared to you. Please stay around and enjoy this upcoming draft with us. Feel free to introduce yourself in below thread as well. https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/welcome-new-jets-fans-introduce-yo-self.78615/
Welcome aboard Sackattack 73 41 years ago (1981) Joe Klecko had the single most dominating season I ever witnessed by a D-lineman 20 & 1/2 sacks on a badly sprained ankle. Overwhelmed, as in physically dominated, every left tackle he faced. He had a great career and made the Pro Bowl at three different positions, but nothing ever topped '81.
Loved that era. They made football fun to watch. Klecko is my 2nd favorite Jet... after Namath of course. Him not being in the Hall is unforgivable. It's said that the NFL started counting sacks because of the prowess of the Sack Exchange. Salaam & Klecko were late round draft picks... 6th or 7th round I believe.
40 years ago…. B4ad hated the Jets Kids listened to lousy music Technology confused old people Politicians we’re all crooks and the country was screwed Some things never change
And his teammate chipped in 20 sacks of his own. Truly epic, and unparalleled. In my opinion, something that isn’t talked about enough, despite the nickname. In fact in an odd way, the Sack Exchange nickname obscures the accomplishment. 40.5 sacks by two men in a single season.
Yep, best Jets player ever. Klecko made 3 all pro teams and 4 pro bowls. Revis 4 all pro teams and 7 pro bowls. Klecko played 12 seasons and Revis 11. I'm guessing Br4d might be giving Klecko more credit because he played basically his entire career with the Jets, but Revis still had almost all of his best seasons with us. Revis was one of maybe 2-3 players ever that were true shutdown corners. It's him, Deion, and if there's a 3rd one there's no clear candidate for who it would be other than maybe Rod Woodson.
I'm a huge Revis fan, but consistency matters. Players weren't making the Pro Bowl based on reputation in Klecko's era. Revis' effectiveness fell off a cliff after the knee injury, he was always playing 10yds off the line and was just trying to jump routes at that point.
3-man front with Gastineau in the middle and Lyons on the right. I believe that's Dave Kreig attempting to bribe the Sack Exchange. Good luck, Dave.
It was the moany old guy that always left and wrote posts like he only had a Nokia 3310 U understand me, I haven't seen him post for ages ( I will be shit out of luck if he is dead, not as much as him obviously but still)
@Acad23 @Savatage championsjets69 couldn't find him then I realised he was on ignore lol pick your way through that lot https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...ve-loved-ken-obrien.93930/page-7#post-3930775 https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/hall-of-famer-thinks-joe-klecko-deserves-to-be-in.93561/ I may look like a cunt in the first link but I'm not too fussed he was infuriating.
