Interesting articles. They do put change my perspective somewhat. I need to further digest it all. Thanks.
I hear all the time about how ACL surgeries are 1000% better now. I wonder if the numbers have changed in the 12 years since the beginning of the study. Or even if the numbers changed from their first group to their last. JD wanted to invest 35,38, and 69 in Hill, I don’t see him investing more in Williams.
Good info, I agree with this. I think public sentiment about ACL injuries has swung too far in the "they're no big deal anymore!" direction. They're a lot easier to come back from than they were in the past but they're still really bad injuries to sustain. Achilles injuries are the worst now without question, aside from catastrophic leg breaks with ligament damage a la Alex Smith. ACL and general knee ligament injuries are still probably the worst for a football player other than those though. Also have to keep in mind that this injury may affect Williams more than most since his effectiveness was so predicated on speed and change of direction while at speed. I think taking him at #10 would be a huge reach. I'd rather have Wilson or London every time there.
Don't forget the lisfranc injury. I think there have been a number of players who were never able to recover from it, but maybe I'm confusing it with something else. I'd rather have Williams on one leg than London. I don't like him at all. Period. He is probably the one player that could go early, that would make me question the competence of the Jets scouts, JD, Saleh, and MLF. I think that little of him, and you know how much I think the Jets need a taller/bigger WR and not another sub 6' WR. I'd take Dotson or Wilson over him every single time. I'd also take Burks, Williams, Pickens, and Watson over him every single time. I'm actually stunned that so many people like him and think that he is a great prospect.
Why would you sign a 30 year old guard and then move one of the few bright spots on the offense, a rookie you drafted last season, to accommodate the vet free agent? You sign free agents to fill holes not push good players out of their spots.
tomlinson was a probowler at LG and played that for the last 5 years or so. AVT played both LG and RG in college (and OT if i remember correct) and is only 1 year out from that. it's probably easier for AVT to adjust. also AVT was more of an elite run blocker then pass protector last year. putting him on the right side next to likely becton really paves the way to run right while you have the more reliable vets on the blind side and fant was better in pass protection then run blocking. I get the logic behind it
