That's what I would have said until I watched the (long) JetsXFactor breakdown of Sauce. I couldn't believe the way he blanketed Jameson Williams on every single play, and Williams was clearly the best receiver in NCAA before the injury. Sauce is the kind of player that doesn't come along often. To me, he's the kind of guy you take even if he's not the kind of guy you need. With that said, I certainly won't be offended if JD takes an Edge and WR with the top two picks.

Building on what you are saying I saw this article below saying the Jets have heavy interest in Gardner. I would not be dissapointed but as I am sure we all do there are a lot of players I want and Hall was regularly graded as a top 15 to 20 cb last year which puts him well above average. He should only get better this year. But, Gardner also looks to be a pretty sure thing with a lot less risk than other picks. I can understand the attraction.

The Jets and Giants both have strong interest in Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The fact that the Jets went so aggressively on Hill and to a lesser extent Chandler Jones, tells me that while Edge/WR at 4/10 is the most likely scenario there is someone at another position that they really, really like. If I had to guess it's Sauce or one of the offensive linemen.

Hopefully we still take those guys that we liked regardless of FA outcome

I think JD is working a deal if his guy is not there at #4 and if he is there he’ll take him. I don’t think he cares about more assets if the player he loves is there.

Agreed. 2 2nds for Hill would seem to indicate that JD does not want to invest one of the top picks into a WR.

Belichick has made a career of using stud CBs to take away what opposing QBs like to do most. And of course we saw it first hand with Rex.
It’s extremely effective when you have the right personnel.

I’ll also add that WRs are becoming a dime a dozen, with rules favoring them to the point of ridiculousness.
Finding stud CBs is WAAAY harder at this point.

If they really like Sauce, they should take him at 4 before the Giants do.
Go Edge or Oline at 10, look for WRs after round 1.

Here's a thought: What do people think about Jordan Davis at 10? Run defense was abysmal last year and they just lost their best run defender. Do people think he'd be a fit for this scheme? I'm unsure and curious what others think, but something about going Edge at 4 and DT and 10 is intriguing given how bad this D was last year. Would have positive ripple effects for the LBs and DBs too, of course.
(Then the focus would turn to WR either via trade, top of the 2nd, or moving back into the 1st for somebody).

No. One does not draft a part-time player in the top 10. Davis is very talented, but evidently his aerobic conditioning isn't great, or he's too heavy. He can only play a couple of snaps and he needs a breather. Then you play a team that goes no-huddle and you wind up having to burn timeouts to get in a substitute for him.

Even if that were not the case, there's no way the Jets should go Edge and DT with two top ten picks. That would be awful. They can improve their run D without taking Davis. For one thing, having a year's experience in the scheme will have players playing faster and better. Having Lawson, Huff, Nasirildeen, Sherwood, and Joyner back will help vs the run. Last year, Jarrad Davis was awful and the DBs were awful in run support. They should have been sued for non-support. Whitehead alone will change that, but Reed is also very good against the run. Changes that Ulbrich made halfway through the season and the addition of Q. Williams helped as well. Adding Solomon will help solidify the run D If Rankins doesn't see the field that often on running downs. The Jets can take Travis Jones, Phidarian Mathis, or Eyioma Uwazurike and greatly improve their play vs the run. Jones and Mathis will go in the 2nd round, and Uwazurike can probably be had in the 3rd or 4th round. Maybe even the 5th, though I doubt it.

Finally, the D and their play against the run isn't the most important priority for the Jets. Ensuring that Zach develops is. Offense must come first.

That's too rich on D for my blood. We need weapons for Zach. However, I'm a fan of trading #4 and #10 down for multiple picks in the second half of the first round or early second. That could position us to get an enormous amount of 1st and 2nd round strength at a truckload of positions and would give us plenty of picks to get a 1st or 2nd round DL along with our other needs.

I'm starting to think we'll take Sauce at 4. Lots of big threat receivers in our division. I think Kayvon will be there but Sauce screams more of a Douglas pick to me.

With 10, I think they'll go receiver or someone like Jermaine Johnson if he's still there.

I think we can rule out OL in the first but I wouldn't be entirely shocked if we do pick one.

It tells me the Jets aren’t interested in an EDGE or WR at #4 or #10

I could see us trading up/down to #18-22 and taking Zion Johnson to play center and be a backup IOL. JD loves his versatile players.

I think his teammate Wyatt is going to be a better value and probably the better of the two players.

If we trade down (or up) into the twenties he would be my target.

    Crazy idea:

Ojabo is a very interesting prospect, and there's a good chance he'll be available at 35. If JD thinks he's a solution for us at Edge, something like this becomes possible:

    #4: Garrett Wilson
    #10: Jameson Williams
    #35: David Ojabo
    #38: DT or S

If JD is serious about getting weapons for Zach, that would do it with an exclamation point. But we would have to feel confident that Ojabo is an answer at Edge.

I will be kicking and screaming if we take an IDL with a top 10 pick. We did that a handful of times over the last decade and it never worked out for us.

No way would we double dip on receiver in the first when we have Moore, Davis and Berrios.

Hopefully they sucker a desperate QB needy team into a trade, otherwise I'm saying Thibodeaux.

Good CB takes away 1 WR..... a beastly pass rush takes away all of them

    otherwise OT
