So, assuming the 190,000 troop figure was correct, that's over 20% casualties in one month. That just can't be accurate.

I read earlier this week the Ukrainian army was 600,000 men. Another number I just don't buy.

Ukraine's population is 43 million+. I think 600k counting reserves is very reasonable. They did make it illegal for men to leave the country if you were between 18 and 60.

My guess is that the Russian force could be 20% degraded by now. That would include a lot of desertions, which seems to be a reasonable proposition.

I read somewhere that Russia had already expended 90%+ of the munitions tagged for the entire operation. They have a lot of stuff left that has not been committed however that's their reserve in case they need to actually fight NATO. If they start using it now they'll be down to just WMD's as a counter in fairly short order.

What they're good for is preventing your thyroid from taking up external radiation that you are exposed too. The truth probably is that if that radiation is out there around you you're dead anyway from starvation, predation or some other naturally occurring cycle that happens when a population is suddenly deprived of 95% of it's social structure.

One of the things I wonder about Ukraine is whether or not Putin knew it was going to be a disaster for Russia but figured he could make it a bigger disaster for everybody else in the process. He's clearly not in his right mind but the question is how much of the bad thinking is planned out and how much is purely reactive?

Well it is obvious that Russia expected it to be way different. I am not saying they will not push harder but it seems like they are stretching their resources for little long term benefits other than show NATO they are serious.

Once the new batch of weapons get into the hands of Ukraine soldiers... things will get bloodier.

The logical thing to do is to work out a diplomatic solution under a cease fire.

Of course that would go against this administration's agenda and cut into weapon sales...

There is no way this administration wants the fighting to go on. We're getting down to the point that NATO on Russia action seems inevitable.

What the administration likely wants is a full Russian withdrawal from Ukraine and then an armistice that fixes those lines. The question is what are acceptable terms for Ukraine?

If Putin still had his wits about him he'd withdraw from everywhere but the Crimea and the two majority Russian provinces and see what happened next. Unfortunately he has enormous blinders on at this point and so he'll probably just let Russia wallow in the mire they've created - unable to win and as long as he's around unable to withdraw either.

Sounds like you have a large futures bet on Russia to win the war at -340.
