Doug Pederson should be able to turn that team around much quicker than most people expect. Guy won a SB with Nick Foles man, he’s a good HC.
I really doubt Jacksonville will be better than us anytime soon. They are a cluster! Terrible. Not that we are good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You can't play QB in the NFL without a rounded set of skills that allow you to make all the plays required. Often you can play QB without being able to make all the throws because your offensive staff recognizes your limitations and doesn't require you to make those throws. However when there are a significant number of required plays that you cannot make with high efficiency you're basically not going to last long as a starting QB in the NFL. At a base level Zach Wilson has the arm to make all the throws. However he has exhibited a tendency to be unable to make many of the required plays even with a strong arm. This is not unusual. There are plenty of guys who have come into the NFL with enough arm strength but were unable to manage the kind of consistent play that would keep them on the field. I would argue that the vast majority of 1st round QB's entered the NFL with enough arm. Most of them failed because they couldn't catch up to the speed of the NFL game or they just weren't accurate enough to make the required throws at the required percentages. If you go back and look at his college film you see a determined effort by the offensive staff to create situations in which Wilson's strengths stood out. A short description of BYU's offense would be "they pitched the ball to RB's going left a lot. They let Wilson take shots up the left sideline a lot. They pitched the ball to RB's going right a bit less. They let Wilson take shots up the right sideline a bit less. When in doubt they ran the ball." I'm not sure what the Jets were looking at when they scouted Wilson but I'm pretty sure they over-valued his arm. I'm also pretty sure they didn't ask themselves the basic question of whether or not Wilson would prosper in the offense they wanted to run. They undoubtedly evaluated him as having the arm to make all the throws needed. However with not a huge sample to go on they couldn't answer the basic question of whether or not Wilson could make the basic throws the offense required consistently enough to be good in that offense. Being able to make the short throws a distributor makes doesn't matter if you are behind the count when you let the ball go or if you put too much velocity on the ball when you let it go. It's all timing and touch and Wilson has demonstrated neither of those qualities to date.
I saw all of this late today and frankly am glad that he went to the fish. IMHO, we have to may needs to give four picks away. Can we stick to the fking plan! We had a decent FA period and now can get some blue chippers with four picks that would have gone south - no pun intended. As BR4 pointed out, it's all about ZACK and if he doesn't make the leap, JD and CS are "F" big time and Mike White and Falcco are not going to save their asses.
You are in denial my friend. Jacksonville has a vastly superior roster and just got a coach who won a super bowl.
Really, I watched several Jacksonville games, they may well had been worst team in NFL! That’s why they are picking #1. Coach was fired previously in Philly, so not sure how great he is. Mark my words we will have more wins then them, come end of season! I doubt they will be any good for couple out years. They are in complete rebuild, and trying to get over urban meyer debacle. We are will past gase fallout!
It really all comes down to Lawrence. If he's some semblance of what he was reputed to be then the Jaguars have a shot. If not then not.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...miami-dolphins-sends-shock-waves-social-media Draft picks include a first, second, and fourth this year. Dolphins are signing Hill to a four-year $120 million extension. Edit: I see all of the discussion of this is taking place in the Jets Forum, so presumably this thread will become crickets and tumbleweeds.
I couldnt feel differently about the Jets. We all know you need an elite QB to be a contender, and that's not a secret. There's only 7 playoff spots available, and 6 elite QB's in the AFC alone in Allen, Mahomes, Herbert, Wilson, Watson, and Burrow, and thats not even counting the Raiders, the Titans, Patriots, Steelers, etc. The Jets are not going to be able to sniff the playoffs for the next 10 years unless Wilson becomes elite. There will always be the years where one of those QB's tears an ACL or something and their team doesnt make it (See Baltimore last year) but that's hoping for a miracle. In the NFC, solid teams will make it without having an elite QB, but not in the AFC, imo.
Disagree. JD motivation is too make the roster competitive and build this team into a contender hand in glove with the CS he picked. I was surprised, but apparently JD and Co. thought Hill was worth pursuing, which implies he is willing to accelerate the process by using key picks if it makes sense. But, It has zero to do with being unhappy with Saleh, much to the contrary. Your assumption there is speculation in my view. As to the combine, huge waste of time to have ten key people all holding a stop watch tracking cone and speed trials. They will review all the highlights after the event. Much more productive for the CS to analyze real game tape of the players at home, since they are not as familiar with them, and conducting the interviews virtually. JD and the CS are working the draft together, as well as free agency, rest assured. Seems the more I read here the more it appears JD is forever damned if it goes deep once in a while in free agency, and damned if he doesn’t pursue it any time a top player is mentioned. Personally, I’m thrilled we didn’t get Hill, and love how he made Miami stick their necks way out to get Him. Apparently they won’t be building thru the draft, at least not this year, and they do have holes, starting with the QB.
Im pretty critical of our roster and even I have to disagree. They’ve done almost nothing to help Lawrence outside of Pederson. They’ve moved laterally in terms of pass catchers. Maybe a new coach will do the trick but for their sake, they better hope that’s all it takes.
The stories coming out about Urban are unreal. The team had talent, and added much more this offseason. I fully believe his incompetence was the reason for their incompetence, and that having someone like Pederson will help right the ship. I also think it will be easier for them to get some wins in their division as opposed to the jets. I think its a little tougher in the east with Buffalo, Miami and NE.
If JD couldn't land him, at least he made the Fish pay thru the gills for him. A decision that will help their passing game but hurt their team everywhere else, for years to come.
The Dolphins also are giving Hill a four-year, $120 million extension, including $72.2 million guaranteed and also including $52.535 million at signing, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN. is way to rich for my blood
Valid question. I've been one of the main posters stating that I think we need a bigger WR for this offense, and I stand by that. I would have made an exception for Hill because he is so fast and so good. I still would have wanted the Jets to add a bigger WR in the draft or next year in the draft.
I am a big proponent of making sure the premium positions have elite talent. That's QB, LT, CB and Pass rusher. Perhaps we are adding WR to that now. The jags have better players at those positions than the jets. Lawrence should be a better QB than Wilson, and I attribute a lot of his failures last year to his ass of a head coach. Pederson will help him a lot. Their tackle cupboard is pretty stacked with Cam Robinson, Jawaan Taylor, and perhaps one of my favorite LT's from last year's draft class in Walker Little. They have Josh Allen as a pass rusher and K'Lavon Chaisson, and will probably add Aiden Hutchinson to that group. Tyson Campbell played great last year as a rookie corner and they added Darious Williams in free agency. The Jets dont currently have any pass rushers or corners, and are hoping their LT decides he wants to lose weight, concentrate and play hard. They even have players outside of the premium positions that are better than the jets have imo. Their running backs are much better (James Robinson and Travis Etienne). Christian Kirk is very good. Brandon Scherff might be the best guard in football. Olukun was a beast last year for Atlanta. They added Evan Engram. They have a lot of good players to work with, and, more importanly, I am a big fan of their new head coach.
