If we draft London we’d have done a fantastic thing. Perfectly complements the WRs we already have. That gives us two guys that can play both inside and out.
I will definitely have to disagree, he was injured in college, he gets no separation from defensive backs, and he doesnt have the best hands.....Personally as much as it would be way to similar to what we have I would look at Dohtson in the 2nd round and either Wilson or Burke's in the 1st round
Crowder was here during rock bottom and always put his head down and played hard. I wish him luck going forward.
injuries happen. we've had 3 years in a row of the injury bug. JD made it a point to sign players who don't get hurt. look at our free agency this year, all of the players have been very durable. He's considering that as well
To me, London and Wilson are absolutely perfect fits. London is a contested ball guy, physical, good YAC in college, can play inside or out. Wilson is just an all around stud. If we end up with either of those two I will celebrate.
In a perfect world (my opinion), I am taking Jahan Dotshon and Christian Watkins in the 2nd in hopes of rounding out our wide receiver core.
Yes, injuries happen, they happen to every team. The issue is it happens to us constantly, year after year like clock work. Hence the reason we need depth at the position. Right now we have Davis and Moore, and a bunch of number 4 receivers. Thats not the way to head into the draft...
We will be drafting that depth. Only Jeff Smith is still on the roster, and I'm hoping that JD will draft two WRs and remedy that situation. The other Smith signed with another team last season.
We definitely need to upgrade the WR corps. I'm with you 100%, and like you I don't like London at all. I'd be very happy at WR if we drafted Burks (if he's there), Christian Watson or George Pickens in the 2nd and Wan'Dale Robinson in the 4th.
If I were to sign a vet WR it would be Marquez Valdes-Scantling. He's tall, speedy, would give us another deep threat and he played pretty well for GB. If JD is planning on drafting 2 WRs (which I hope he is), then I don't really see an urgent need to sign a vet WR just to wind up cutting him in a couple of months.
yeah we've had awful luck in injuries. the WR depth will improve with the draft and still low tier free agents out there
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the guy to run those 9 routes. He's young and fast, not old like the others.
I agree. I truly don't get the fascination with London except for his height. He has the worst hands of any of the top WR prospects, and is slow as molasses. He couldn't get separation consistently in college, against 2nd or 3rd tier DBs. Why anyone thinks he will get separation in the NFL is beyond me. To make matters worse, most of his drops came on contested catches, and almost every one of his catches in the NFL could be contested. I think he's going to be a bust.
London is not a contested catch guy. He should be at this height, but most of the passes he dropped (and he dropped quite a few) were in contested catch situations.
I will say that if Jeff Smith and Mims are both likely to be gone, then adding Valdes-Scantling and two rookies to Moore, Davis and Berrios would be the way to go. I think the Jets like Smith for some reason, I think it's his speed and ability with the ball in his hands, but the problem is he's evidently a lousy route runner and can't get open.
That's a product of his not being able to consistently get separation. Check out his drop statistics in contested catch situations. No way I'd draft him, not even in the 2nd round. I might would take a flyer on him in the 3rd round or lower.
"Sure he has the most contested catches in the entire sport but what about the ones he dropped?!" This is a very unique opinion that I'm thrilled our front office most likely does not share.
Funny you would mention him, they were talking about him on the radio this morning, young and aggressive with upside and growth. GB is trying to get him back. Hard to know how hard JD is looking at free agency with such a deep and strong group of WR in this year draft. Rumor around the media now seems to be that contrary to prior forecasts, QBs will be targeted by a few teams early in the first round, with the current contracts getting ridiculously out of hand, and followed heavy by WRs by many a team possibly more than once in the first three rounds.
