Btw, Browns just cleared 15 mil CAP from Amari Cooper's deal (while paying him exactly the same of course) and still have enough room to get Landry and Clowney after getting 46 mil guy in Watson and still having 20 mil guy Baker on the roster: https://www.cleveland.com/browns/20...-landry-and-jadeveon-clowney-sources-say.html This CAP hell sounds like an amazing place to be in!
This. ... and if JD had brought him in and he'd got injured again there would have been wailing about him not learning his lesson from previous FAs who couldn't get on or stay on the field. 30-year-old receivers coming off ACL tears are not players to kick up too much of a fuss over. Let's wait until after the draft to see exactly what the plan is, shall we? We're potentially adding four more starters in the first two rounds. It's not like our roster is set.
I think it would be interesting to revist this post in 2025 and see how the Browns are doing cap wise with a 55 million cap hit in 2023, 2024 and 2025 from Watson.
While CMC is an amazing player, he is coming off his 2nd injured season in a row. He would definitely help Wilson as another quality pass catcher. He will also be 26 this season, so I wouldn't really want to give up more than a 2
This is true, and I'm sure is why he didn't make a run at Woods. I also think that JD believes in a couple of other things. One, I think he believes in Zach completely, and didn't think that he needed to get a reliable vet in order for Zach to develop and succeed, whereas many of us fans were thinking we had to do that. I like the confidence he shows in Zach. Initially, I didn't think we needed to add a veteran WR, but when most everyone else started clamoring for one, I allowed myself to be influenced. Two, I think that JD knows that one should draft one's own playmakers. One can get the character and characteristics one wants in that way, and have them cheaply for 4-5 years. Signing another team's cast-off playmaker is expensive, and there are usually reasons other than just the salary cap why that team is not re-signing that playmaker. Either he is older and declining, has attitude issues, has injury issues, or off-field issues.
Corey Davis is our vet WR. I always thought putting pressure on the pass defense with capable TEs would help open up our WRs. Draft a stud WR early and I think we are OK... not our biggest weakness.
I disagree, as do most of the experts. Our top two needs are WR and Edge. At present our WR corps consists of Moore, Davis, Berrios, Mims, and Jeff Smith. You call that fine? Moore, Davis and Berrios all got injured and missed games last season. Mims is probably on his way out the door, and he was awful last season. Jeff Smith sucks. We cannot have another season with the likes of Jeff Smith, Tariq Black, the Montgomery kid or some other stiff off the street lining up at WR for us.
No thank you. Piece of shit human and clearly wants to be paid far too much. He’s never produced outside of an Andy Reid offense playing with one of the top 3 QBs in the league. He’d cost at least 1 first. This would be a total Maccagnan move.
Tyreek had 75 catches 1200 yards and 7 TDs in '17 with Alex Smith as his QB... I would considered that producing.
Fair. But also in fairness to me I’m reading and driving since I got the alert about the rumor so I missed the Smith year. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a sack of shit
I couldn't see JD trading a 1st and then paying him that kind of money. Especially for somebody with his issues. Would be shocked if it's anything other than "due diligence"
Some of you all crack me up. He would instantly be best receiver on the team, and make the offense better. Rewatch TD he caught against Buffalo in playoffs where he went about 70 yards to the house. Sign me up.
well... this thread turned out to pretty on the mark. kudos, of course. i wasnt feeling it but... looks like we were ready to offer a fkton. i prefer a team w/o domestic abusers
Conner Hughes, like him or hate him, has once again been spot on and completely tuned into the Jets this off-season. He deserves credit for predicting the Jets would try to make a big trade.
