It appears as though the Jets are lining this up to take Hamilton or KT at four. I know some folks that are big on taking Ekwonu at 4 which I’m absolutely lost on the reasoning unless they move Becton for something worthwhile. We now have two first round picks invested in the line and the 9th highest paid center and 6th highest paid guard in terms of average yearly salary with McGovern out after the year and no replacement in sight. I’d prefer to go defense at 4, take Linderbaum at 10 or in a trade down and cut McGovern at this point than take another tackle at 4. We’re also beat to shit at receiver and are basically required to take one in our top 4 picks. I also believe the defensive line is top ten or so highest paid and I’m so confused as to why Rankins hasn’t been cut. And it was the worst run defending line in the NFL last year…
It is hard to build through the draft when you give up on your draft picks after a year or two. Becton looked great in his rookie year which makes the idea of throwing our hands up so confusing. The value at tackle could be in a very good place for us to take one in round two or three. That would still leave the door open for Becton while giving us depth and competition.
I certainly wouldn't close the door on Becton. Just have to make sure we have depth and solid competition, as we just don't know what will happen with him. Penning in round 1 would be my preference, especially if we can trade back a couple spots and still get him. He's a RT anyway. But rounds 2 or 3 could also present opportunities i agree.
These are all good points. As to taking Ekwonu at #4, it isn't overkill IMO because I think they're going to part ways with Becton. Now, if that isn't the case, then yes, I think Thibodeaux becomes the pick if JD can't trade back for something worthwhile. I had sort of forgotten about Linderbaum until LAJet mentioned him another post, but I can definitely see him being taken at #10 to get rid of McGovern and his higher salary. And I think Rankins might still be cut to free up some cash to get some other FAs.
I don’t get the becton hate. Frustration I get. Kick to the curb I don’t. Not yet anyway he might be our RT. He could pulverize people. Break their will here’s hoping he comes back 100% plus with a chip on his shoulder
This, is 100% spot on I made the same prediction at ten on another thread. Linderbaum is making nothing but good sense
These are the positions I’ve been mocking to the Jets for a while now, way before free agency. But I like different players: 1.4 Jermaine Johnson II 1.10 Drake London 2.35 Travis Jones 2.38 Jaquan Brisker/Daxton Hill, Kyler Gordon 3.69 Jeremy Ruckert
The Jets are not parting ways with Becton. That's ridiculous! I don't believe you guys and your hatred for Becton! It's totally irrational.
I do. He played very well in 2020. I don't think for one minute that JD is even remotely considering the possibility of trading Becton, nor should he. I think Jets fans are too quick to judge, dismiss, and write off players. They're the worst kind of fans. I'm getting to the point where I'm embarrassed to be a Jets fan. It seems like I have little in common with most of them with the way we view things, and it's getting harder and harder for me to read this site and Twitter.
Think of it this way - if JD likes Ekwonu more than Becton it’s a viable option. 2 extra years of a cheap tackle, AND get assets when you trade Becton.
Speaking for myself, it's not hate, it's distrust. He did okay his first season, but still missed some games, had to sit out plays, but then followed that up by coming to OTAs out of shape and then got beat like a drum against our own DL and also the teams we played in P.S. before going down with an injury. While the injury wasn't his fault, the rehab that is still ongoing makes me question his dedication. I don't think it's crazy to not have a lot of faith in the guy at this point. If he proves me wrong - and I hope he does - that would be great, but if he proves me right, and JD doesn't have a good Plan-B that would be a big problem they can't afford, especially now that one of their "depth" guys Moses is gone. I trust Douglas to know what's going on with Becton and to know if he can count on him, but speaking only from a fan's limited knowledge I'd rather move on and get someone more reliable and dependable. I don't see that as "hate", I see it as prudence.
In that scenario, he'd trade Fant. Fant is the highest paid and his contract expires after this season. Trading Becton would undo a lot of the good that JD has done. IMO it would be a gigantically stupid move backward.
Well see what happens. I see a CS that doesn’t like that 2020 class, Negative things from the start about Becton, Mims, even Bryce Hall this offseason. It’s not as crazy as you think. JD can also get more in a trade for Becton than Fant still.
Again with the hyperbole. It's not "hate", it's simply being prudent. If they can get a guy who A) Might well be better and a better fit in the zone blocking scheme, and B) who is more dependable, why wouldn't they do it? As you've posted numerous times in numerous threads, this year has to be about finding out if Zach is the FQB, and all things have to be geared towards that. Does going into the season - when FA and the draft are already past - with a L/R T who hasn't proven he can be counted on fill that requirement? No way! If JD thinks Becton can be counted on and Becton comes back and fulfills his promise, that's great, but it would be professional malpractice to go into this season betting on a guy with Becton's track record.
Call it what you will. It's the other side of the same coin, and is ridiculous and disgusting to me. I understand where it's coming from, but that doesn't excuse it. Jets fans have just fallen into knee-jerk reactions because they've been disappointed and frustrated for so long. It's mental laziness. It's time for people to drop that crap and have hope and trust again. Not every player will work out, but I believe that the majority of them will with JD. It's one thing to have some questions or concerns about Becton, but to even broach the idea of trading him, or wanting to move on is just ridiculous and over the top to me. I truly think that some of you guys don't want to see the Jets win again. You're happier being critical and pessimistic. Becton was better than just OK his rookie season. Becton deserves better from Jets fans.
