Sounds like what Japan did to Korea during WWII, minus the slavery part. Arbor Day is one of the biggest holidays in South Korea today because of that.
Putin’s spin doc demands reparations from US over sanctions, wants Alaska back https://nypost.com/2022/03/15/putins-spin-doc-wants-reparation-from-u-s-and-alaska-back/amp/ Shoot your shot. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take I guess.
This thread has turned into a floating garbage barge leaking pollution into the Hudson. There's no way to keep politics out of the discussion because bombing people is all about politics, but sheese.
If Putin wanted Trump to get re-elected, which is pretty plausible, he wasn't going to invade during Trump's first term.
If he was patiently waiting for Trump's 2nd term, the next question is.... why? Especially when Trump was getting impeached every time he did something stupid... which was often.
Maybe Putin does not care that much about who is America president and he was more focus on destabilizing Nato while it was at a perfect storm with new peaceful to russia government in Germany and upcoming election in France.
Maybe Putin just cracked? The invasion was a huge mistake and the type of error that you would not expect Putin to make. There was basically zero chance that Putin got deposed short of an error of this magnitude. Now he is basically on a day to day basis and will be for as long as the sanctions cripple Russia. He could be President of Russia for the next decade but he's going to have to look over his shoulder for domestic attempts to unseat him now. This is a prospect that was almost unthinkable 3 months ago. I'm definitely worried that he is going to go on a pattern of continual escalation at this point because he has nowhere else to turn to get out of the predicament he has put himself in.
Well Ukraine is in distress so an upside down flag is kind of correct, pretty sure that wasn't their intent though
I think we are beginning to see the unsurvivability of dictatorships in the information age. I wouldn't be surprised to see some enterprising Russian millennial put a bullet in the back of Putin's head impulsively while the guy was out for his morning rape. During the Cold War, Russia had no idea what the West was like. Now they can watch the Oscars. At least until Jared Leto mentions Ukraine.
I hope you are right but authoritarians seem stronger to me than they have been in decades. It’s the Information Age but it’s also the disinformation age. i do like the idea of some millennial taking out Putin though, that would be an appropriate ending
