We disagree on S. Neither Joyner nor Pinnock are good enough IMO, but you may be right. The Jets may have decide to let Pinnock and Joyner fight it out. Marshall could have improved vs the run with better technique and strength. They could be planning on keeping Rankins even though he was horrible vs the run. I really would be shocked if they sign and draft a DT, and disappointed. I think that can wait until next year. I think TE, S, RB and LB are all more important than adding two DTs.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling! At least you don't procrastinate. You're going to go ahead and panic/worry now over something that might not ever happen just in case it happens. THAT's proactive!
As for Maye, I'm not interested, even on the cheap. The reason why - Achilles Achilles injuries usually take 12-24 months to get up to pre tear levels from what I've seen throughout the league so far. It's a killer, especially for players that need initial burst. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
I suppose but we are also supposed to believe Carl Lawson will be back as a big time pass rusher despite suffering the same injury
Absolutely. Which is why FA has been a huge success IMO. We still have holes but instead of needing 2 hands and a foot to count them on, we’ve reduced those to 1 hand. We’ve got a ton of flexibility now going into the draft so that we don’t have to draft someone just because they’re at a position of need. If Sauce falls to 10, I could absolutely still see us taking him. A trio of Sauce, Hall, and Reed would be an amazing young core at DB for Saleh and Ulbrich.
I do feel A LOT better after signing Whitehead. Would have been nice to get Williams of course, especially since we came so close, but Whitehead was my next best choice and JD got him. Hopefully half the price annually with half the guaranteed years means we can get a additional solid player to what JD is already building. Also I think you know my view on positional value of safety .
We will see. He got hurt earlier so more time to heal and maybe not as important for a player with their hand in the dirt? He is a quick burst guy so it is a major concern.
Whitehead is the complete opposite of Ashtyn Davis. Davis shies away from contact and Whitehead seeks it out. If this signing is not a message to the young man, Idk what is
As we always talk about money and cap hits. I hope these contracts follow the similar structure as last year. Just a reminder for next year that cutting Corey Davis, Carl Lawson and JFM with a combined cap hit of 38.9 mill, can all be released saving 36.7 mill. These contracts providing great flexibility for us as a team. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Idk, Whitehead didn't make me feel much better. He's a lot cheaper than Williams but also a significantly worse player. I don't think he's much of an upgrade from the guys we already have. He's also stronger in run support than coverage. We shouldn't be surprised if our safeties are getting roasted regularly again next season. Williams would've instantly been our best defender and we'd have had him for 5 years.
Whitehead is fine, you have to respect the way he plays the game. Wish we had a team of guys like him. I do worry about injuries though with the way he plays... Williams is obviously better, but he chose the Ravens, that's what happens when you are 6-27 the last two seasons, players look elsewhere
and what about the trust element for the team wth a player who did not disclose a DUI - and is still to get a league punishment for it
Given the injury and withholding of his DUI, I'd be really surprised if they resign Maye, but sounds like the door is open later in the offseason. I've always liked Maye so would be cool to have him back though.
No doubt Williams is better, and I would have probably cut off one of my testicles if that helped choose us, but Whitehead is not bad at all as a consolation prize. Definitely way better than Joyner and Pinnock. We will probably get another safety in the draft somewhere. Maybe now also with money saved we can even resign Maye. There is no question we missed out here, we both agree on that, but Whitehead helps. We now need to improve the pass rush, perhaps via #4 in draft, and that will make secondary look a lot better.
DUIs also usually bring a suspension too don't they? Going to have to be a real cheap 1 year deal to get around these red flags. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Would be nice to get a LB but nothing on FA tracker has me super excited. i think one of the high seconds will be an LB might be nice to offer Anthony Barr a contract and then later say we changed our mind, just because....
