i haven’t recently but the one I did a month ago had him within 15 but not many I saw was top 10. I’m very intrigued by him and the tape I saw. I would really like to have him on the Jets

This feels very similar to Amari Cooper. JD just wouldn't overpay. Rumor has it Jets offered same contract as Ravens, but he preferred Ravens. If we gave 15 mil, it could have likely been enough, just like a 5th rounder for Cooper. Williams is one of the best safeties in NFL. To get a guy like that in free agency for 15 mil/year is not a terrible move at all. It would also end all the talk about Hamilton at #4.

Marcus Williams is not getting $31 million this year. He’s getting $31 million over 1st two years. This is of note because if for some reason the Ravens don’t keep him after two years, his $14 million/year spikes to $15.5 million so the Ravens front loaded the contract a bit.

Even just from the basic details, it’s pretty clear he got a ton of guaranteed money. It’s not just average per year you need to look at, because $14 million per year sounds reasonable enough right? But the structure of the deal at first glance is probably a little too player friendly.

We aren't competing for anything next year anyway and the contract averages out to $14 million per year over 5 years. If anything it would've been a plus for us that it's front loaded because it would've cleared up cap space in ensuing years where we'd actually have a chance to make a playoff run.

That's not true at all. JD is the best GM we've had in a long time, that doesn't mean he's been a great GM though. He's been about average I'd say. Great with trades, fairly bad in FA overall (other than this one), and average at the draft with one good draft and one bad one.

This is also just a little ironic coming from the biggest JD cheerleader on the board.

They were missing a metric shit ton of starters and key contributors and still almost made the playoffs. Ravens are a good team.

I highly doubt it. At #4 you want to get a guy, who if becomes top of the League would cost around 20 mil. Then you are having a 20 mil dollar guy on a rookie contract, saving a lot. Or better yet, a guy who would not even hit free agency. You could have had a top safety for 15 mil just now without wasting a pick, then draft someone like KT, who would be 20+ mil if realizes potential and not even available as FA, hence saving a lot more on rookie deal vs Hamilton, who would be 15 mil if becomes top player and likely available as FA.

I think they are overrated and Lamar Jackon was exposed last season. They are a .500 type team.

DJ Reed is a decent signing, probably better than Echols. Likely a good depth signing assuming we go CB with a high pick.

The big difference is that you're a glass is half empty type of guy, but won't admit it. I'm a glass is half full type, admit it, and embrace it.

It includes signing bonus, which is CAPed over 5 years, the CAP hit this year is a lot less than that, probably around 14 mil every year give or take. This was a really good deal for a top Safety.

I think I am somewhere in between. This was a miss though - Williams filled a huge need and is a top player who required to be only slightly overpaid. You could convince me that maybe Amari Cooper wasn't, but not doing so here I feel is a mistake. And certainly getting neither of these top guys.
