We can't call it a whiff if we don't know what Williams' line of thinking was. He's 26 and about to enter his prime... did he even entertain the Jets offer despite it being more? Was it even more? Way too much unknown to call it a whiff. More like a disappointment.

Shame we missed out on Williams.

Jets Tax would have sealed it, but JD doesn't want to pay jets tax and I can't blame him.

Can't blame Williams choosing Baltimore over us, a team that's consistently in the mix the last decade and have Jackson as QB. Team hunting for a superbowl next year and have a ball hawking saftey as a key component of their D.

    Least we're not Jagging it.

We don't know but we do know that players choose the money most of the time. It's a league with exceptionally short careers.

We also know JD has a very hardline stance with regards to perceived overpays, even if it's a tiny overpay purely out of principle.

We can assume and you know the old adage about assuming.

I'm also not saying that this isn't just JD sticking to his "morals". Just saying that we can't blame JD for not signing a player if the player didn't want to be here. That's a product of being a bad team.

Exactly! It’s not a whiff at all and it’s def disappointing as I wanted him as well. But we don’t know what he wanted from us to really come here or if he rather take less to go to a contender. Also I’m happy for the way JD moves within FA so far this year!

We'll probably never know but I'd be very interested to see what our offer was for Williams. I would think we would've outbid Baltimore but maybe not.

I think this was probably a situation where Williams got 14M per from BAL and 15-16 from us and said he'd rather take a little less and make a run at a ring.

Also, Baltimore is paying him 31M guaranteed next year which is something I'm sure JD was not willing to do.

We're all assuming a ton of things, it's a message board. That's what it's for. Speculation.

Forums wouldn't be a thing if you needed concrete evidence to make any claims. I'm making the best guess possible given what I know about NFL players and JD.

Yes, it's possible we offered more and he still chose the Ravens due to them being a better team. I'm just saying I'm not sure that's the most likely explanation.

He’s getting $14 million per and going to a team that’s in contention for a SB every year, it’s a win, win for Williams.

Not every player is looking to play for the Jets.

Eh that's a bit of a stretch. They were 8-9 last year and they play in the AFC where there are like half a dozen teams that are clearly better. They did have a lot of injuries last year but next season is also the first season they're paying Lamar big money which will hurt their ability to add talent elsewhere. They missed their most competitive window already.

What? I have no idea what mocks you've been seeing, but every single mock I have seen has Sauce in the top 10, if not the top 5.

Nonsense. Williams is getting $31 million next year, and he chose the Ravens over us, probably because of that. That's insane money for a QB! No way JD or any GM in his right mind hands that to a S. He can sign 2-3 players for that.

I just had to go back and look but the Ravens have only had 5 losing seasons since the year 2000 so I'm not sure it's a huge stretch.

They're just a very well run franchise that always seems to be in contention in the AFC North.

JD may have offered more, but I doubt seein how Williams will be getting $31 million next year or over the next year. That's insane money! He may have just been using us, but at least we were in the running up to the end. That shows we are gaining respect around the league.

not spending 14-15 million/year on a safety can be a blessing in disguise.

We have a fixed pie, and we have to decide how to slice it up. This isn't MLB

    Opportunities will present themselves

And the bold is to be expected because you're always ready to shit on JD at the drop of a hat. Just admit you don't like him, don't trust him and don't want him as our GM. You criticize every freaking thing he does, and I honestly don't recall your ever praising him for anything.

We may have missed on Marcus Williams but go out and pay for a guy liek Myles Jack.

Jack+Mosley+Quincy+Two Safety Projects we have at LB is solid!

A little off the wall here, but yesterday Sports Ill called Maye the best safety steal in the FA. Maybe we should copy Baltimore and "steal" our own guy back.

huh? check your facts. Its a 5 year 70 M contract. 70/5 is 14 per year, not 31.

I've felt that way all along. Why let Marcus Maye go just to pay a different safety more money

think it depends on his recovery. I would be very leary until I know he can still run.
