I dont think prices came down, I think that's his market value. The draw to Daniels is that he's 26... Tomlinson is the better player. I personally would have preferred going the younger route but it's extremely hard to complain about signing the pro-bowler to a decent contract.
Which is why JD draws a line in the sand. Super bummed we didn’t get Williams but the fact that it sounds like it was us or Baltimore and Williams was actually interested bodes well.
Pass on Chanlder Jones. Would make no sense with the amount of money tied up at Edge. Maybe some depth at DT but that's a draft position. IMO they should focus on secondary and add at least one quality starter
And this is why tanking will always be the dumbest plan. If you want to sign elite talent, you have to at least pretend you care about winning. Luckily tanking is just something created by fans and not something teams actually do (With the exception of Indy). The best way to build a team is to create a culture and you don't do that by bending over.
After seeing what the FA Safety market looks like now, do you think Maye has realized what he's worth yet?
I agree. The other thing that I'm sure won the day for the Ravens is the contract: No way JD would do something stupid like pay Williams $31 million next season. That's insane!
Hamilton will most likely be sitting there at #4 if we still need a safety at about $5-$6mil less per year than Williams got. I'm sure that plays into JD's decision making process.
Wasn't a typo. He missed one game because of Covid last year. I'd absolutely dump McGovern for Tretter and go as high as $10 mil to get him.
is anyone seeing Marcus Maye in their crystal ball? my guess is we're looking for some hold the fort guys at LB
I actually think Sauce is a top 10 talent, I haven’t seen much mocks or people taking him in the top 10 tho. I do trust JD tho and I’m excited to see which way he goes depending on how the board plays out.
Missing out on Williams feels like a classic JD "arbitrary line in the sand" consequence. $14 million per year is more than fair for Williams. Yes, we would've had to pay up a bit to get him to choose us instead of the Ravens, but it feels like we missed out on a very good player to save ~$1-$2 million per year. Very dumb move if so. JD's first big whiff this FA if that's what went down.
Personally I'd be very surprised if they brought back Marcus Maye. I think they'll try to sign a starter though. Maybe it's Jayron Kearse, Jordan Whitehead or Jaquiski Tartt. If not, they could take Hamilton in the 1st or somebody at the top of the 2nd. As for LB, that would make sense to me and a lot of decent names out there. If they still are trying to turn Hamsah and Sherwood into LBs, a vet would make a lot of sense.
You did see what the Ravens paid him right? So imagine what he wanted to come to us and not a playoff contender. Not sure how anyone can fault JD for having his price and maybe working around that figure. But if it’s way overpriced he walks away. If he was Mac he would spent like the Jags and then y’all would still complain
