100% accurate, I think we may be underrating his blocking though which is his real value, he is solid at both.
Like the move and improves the quality of the TE group in various ways. Similar contract numbers to Will Dissly and with how hot the TE market is, feel this is a fair deal. It allows us flexibility just like the RG does in plugging two of our biggest needs. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk

I meant in the context of this FA signing starting TE is now middle of the pack, and this was pretty much the best we could do in free agency given who was available. I did note we need to draft a good TE as well, and won't mind two either, defending on how free agency continues to develop. The bottom line is, I know Uzomah is not Kelsey of Shultz, but these two were not available, and even Uzomah us a big upgrade over what we have now, even if more needs to be done at TE spot before offseason is over.
Well, maybe he'll require the opposing defense to assign a better defender to cover him, which would mean weaker defenders for the other receivers. Or maybe the opposing defense will have to change their game plan to pay more attention to him, which means less attention paid to other members of the Jets offense. Each one of these improvements to personnel gives the Jets O more of an advantage.
I'm ok with this move. Definitely an upgrade. Still feel like TE should be addressed in Round 2 though.
Sorry if I misunderstood. Yes, it totally upgrades our starting TE. I think he is better than just middle of the pack, however. I think he is upper 1/3, maybe 1/4 of TEs in terms of being a complete player, his leadership, character, etc.
Kelce was picked in the 3rd round, and George Kittle in the 5th. That seems to be where teams look for a good TE, like when we drafted Chris Herndon in the 4th. I wouldn't expect JD to draft another TE before the 4th round.
