Joe Douglas has shown us what he thinks is the proper approach to free agency. Sign good players at positions of need for reasonable money. Is that a surprise? Unlike the Jags he has hired his coach and consulted the staff on what they need to be successful. There is no reason to think that they don't have a good plan for the draft. Unfortunately, injuries at key spots can slow down teams that have not had long enough to build a deep roster.
A great first day of FA! It opens a lot of possibilities for the draft. Edge at #4? or possibly Hamilton (S)? WR1 at #10? With some of the biggest holes filled (plus Berrios), JD has four sub 40 picks to fill Edge, WR 1, S, LB, and another TE or OL depending on how the board falls. maybe they don't all work out, but Douglas is a man with a plan and he's following it and that gives me the most optimism I've had in decades with this team.
Not a fan of the Coleman deal. I really like the Uzomah signing and I hope he can be that guy for Zach. The Jets haven't had a big fluid TE since Johnny Mitchell and Keller. They had a couple of lumbering bums Brady, Dearth, Becht
Tomlinson is not a good signing. My friend a rabid 49er fan was glad to see him go. Tomlinson was not even starting.
Solid re/signings – but nothing special. I'm all about JD building through the draft, that's the only way the team gets out of this.
Is there a FA body of work by JD that I'm unaware of? I don't understand where this confidence and praise is coming from on this board. Over the last 2 years, JD has shown us what approach NOT to take in FA. Based on past approach/results, he has not earned any benefit of the doubt. I suspect this offseason we see a much different, more aggressive approach, as if his job is on the line...because it is. I welcome that. Tomlinson and CJ were good adds. Although he still seems to refuse re-signing any player here before him, even if they can help the team, which just drives me crazy. Fatukasi was worth keeping, and could've been re-signed any time over the last year.
Maybe nothing special, but much better than previous bargain basement fails like GVR and Kroft. You can't build through the draft alone, and heading into a draft with glaring holes is negligent. I'm hoping we add quite a few players, as our entire defense is currently lacking.
Kinda seems like the prudent thing to do would have been to look it up before doubling down. #GoogleIsYourFriend https://www.49ers.com/team/players-roster/laken-tomlinson/
I wanted to keep Fatukasi too, but we are talking about 10 mil a year, 30 over 3 years, for a back-up. That's a tough one to swallow. JFM and Q are the starters, JFM just extended, and Q about to get paid big. There are a lot of starting spots that we still need to fill. As much as I wanted him, I just didn't think Jets could have pulled this one off for a back-up.
You have to understand why the opinion of someone who said Tomlinson wasn’t starting means absolutely nothing right?
I told him and then he said look at the source Jets fan. Of course, I had to defend my Jets. But he also said he is worth nowhere near 40 million. Care to opine on that BZ?
I guess your friend missed 100% of the offensive snaps since Tomlinson has played every offensive snap for the last 5 seasons except 2018 where he played 97% of them. The below does not format well but I highlighted the important numbers. 2015 23 DET LG 72 16 14 986 91% 0 0% 63 14% 2016 24 DET LG 72 16 10 649 63% 0 0% 69 17% 2017 25 SFO LG 75 15 15 1043 100% 0 0% 46 10% 2018 26 SFO LG 75 16 16 1027 97% 0 0% 62 13% 2019 27 SFO LG 75 16 16 1064 100% 0 0% 92 21% 2020 28 SFO LG 75 16 16 1094 100% 0 0% 67 15% 2021* 29 SFO 75 17 17 1091 100% 0 0% 78 17% Career 6954 0 477 5 yrs SFO 80 80 5319 0 345 2 yrs DET 32 24 1635 0 132 I did see another source that said his snap pct for 2020 was only 99.7% so maybe the 100% there is rounded up.
