There is no point. Tomlinson is one of the best players at his position. He should get paid as such. But yes it's quite a strange gameplan to use someone not in the top 20 at their position as a reference point.
Well ideally you would pay someone for what they will produce, not what they have produced in the past for other teams. also before today I never heard anyone, ever, call Laken Tomlinson a stud
Except Tomlinson was fantastic last season, has been an important piece for SF, and is always on the field. Definitely wouldn’t call him a stud but he’s a very solid player and fits the Jets scheme for obvious reasons. Kirk has had 4 100 yard games in 4 years and for 18M a year.
Well, he was a pro bowler last year and will fill by far the weakest spot on our OL. Kirk meanwhile has never broken 1,000 yards receiving and is now the 3rd highest paid WR in the NFL.
Well.. Then you should probably open your eyes to the rest of the league, players outside of the Jets. The league Is full of studs... LT has been one of the best guards In the league for a good minute now, this Is a fact. You do not pay that type of money on projection either. The whole point of FA, Is to bring In PROVEN commodities at those positions, for that type of money. This Isn't the draft. So, I would question the argument you are trying to make. It doesn't add up.
I really like dulcich in the 3rd if we can't land mcbride he's not. he's been in the league 4 years and proved he's not even a WR2. he's not even as good as robby. he has a pro bowl QB, a top 3 WR next to him taking on double teams and still can't produce a 1k yard season.
hasn't missed a snap in 5 years. the team loves him as do the fans and he's a top 10 OG in the NFL. IDK what more jet fans want. not to mention perfect system fit who knows the system and a leader, locker room guy, and a mean streak lineman
Yea I got that part. Tomlinson was a solid guard for the 49ers. Kelechi Osemale was a solid guard for the Raiders, too. Hopefully it works out. Im just saying the Jets and the Jaguars both paid a lot of money today. they overpaid for the young WR and the Jets overpaid for an older guard. I dont understand how the Jets are smart and the Jaguars are dumb.
The Jags committed top 3 money to a guy that isn't even top 20 at his position. They paid a 2 down DT $10 mil a year. Meanwhile we paid a top player at his position the amount of money a top player at his position makes and brought back an all-pro returner who showed flashes of being able to handle slot WR duties for $7 mil guaranteed over two years. On what planet are these the same situations?
I'm not talking about Fatukasi and Berrios. Clearly I was referring only to the Kirk and Tomlinson moves
How many people have to explain it to you before you understand it? Sometimes you just have to fold up the tent.
OK so then just apply it to half my post. We paid a player market value for someone at his position and his production, they paid someone like a top three player at his position except he’s not in the top 20
Where would you have liked the Jets to spend that money? Where is the great deal out there for a sure thing FA?
Well theres always the option of not participating, especially when there isn't a great deal out there as you suggest
Not sure what strategy you are referring to? The Jets have not tried a rebuild like this in the past decade, so I am a bit confused.
