All you have to do as a GM for this franchise is sign O Linemen and that'll buy you time in the hearts of our fan base. Meanwhile, Douglas has spent tons of draft and FA money on the O Line. You'd hope ours would be dominant but nope. Go ahead and draft a tackle in the first round while you're at it smh. Bottom line is, unless an O lineman is horrendous, most people won't notice them enough for you to get any flack. Douglas needs to GO! Wake me when we're back to "rebuilding" with whoever the new regime is.
The problem is that we're not developing the young guys that are going to play with him. We're using pieces that will continually drop out, just like we did with Sanchez, Geno and Darnold and we know how those 'development' projects worked out. The Jets do this over and over again and we're always surprised when the QB fails and the OL needs to be rebuilt again. Clueless. Completely clueless.
Why would we trade depth? Don't be surprised if we need 7 or 8 different starters on the o-line this season. The beauty of Ekwanu is we get him for 5 years, which will solve a lot of problems and draft questions in the following seasons, while also being a top player.
ROFLMAO. JD < 6 year old throwing darts. Offense stinks and the two worst defenses in Jet history on his watch. What are you looking at?
You can't get every single person in OL in the draft so they are there for next 10 years, and even if you did, you can't resign all of them anyway. There will be some turnaround at some point. Laken will be here for next 3 years. The guy hasn't missed a snap in last 3 years, just made Pro Bowl, and already knows the system. In 3 years it will be time to pay Becton/AVT, and Laden's contract comes off, so you can do that and get more rookies in the draft. This is a slam dunk signing by JD.
Let's get real. It seems that around the league the word is that the Jets are on the come and the staff, Saleh and company, are good to play for. The coaches only want a certain type of player. They really do their homework.
This is a bandaid move for Zach's development. RG was by far the biggest problem on our OL and Tomlinson had the best year of his career last year. He'll be fine for another year or two at which point we'll have an out. I think the best thing about this move is it means it's unlikely we'll be taking an OL at #4 in the draft. I'm still in favor of taking one or more in rounds 2+ though.
Not every player on the team is going to be in their early to mid 20s. This is still a very young team that had more rookie snaps than any other team last year. Many of JD's other big signings have been younger guys getting their 2nd contract. If they continue signing guys in their 30s, there's a problem, but I highly doubt that'll be the case. And plus it's a 30 year-old OG, not a skill player. They can play into their 30s
So how would you have attacked this offseason? If you consider this move to be idiotic, what exactly could the Jets have done to show you they are an intelligent organization. It seems like you want the team to just play 22 players on rookie contracts. I just want to know how you're seeing such a modest move to improve the OL exposes the Jets as "completely clueless"
I'm going to bank on not missing wildly on most picks, which is where the Jets are now and have been for quite awhile.
It's clueless because the player they are signing is out of sync with the build. Even if he works out for this year they have to replace him soon, alongside the many other replacements required at this point. However he is of an age where an injury is as likely as not and then there is no incentive for him to come back because the team will blow chunks even with him. Then you have the very real chance of a performance step down or some combination of the two factors. This is the kind of guy you sign when you are a player or two away from contending and he fills a major hole. When the Jets sign him it's just another "Jets stink" move.
Dude. This is NOT a "Meh" signing. He is a top OG, he knows the system, is a great blocker, fiery attitude, lockerroom leader, and has NEVER missed a game from injury. In fact, he was only on the injury report once in 2016. The only game he has missed in his career was following a trade. He is a rock. You are dead wrong. He played RG in college. You really need to check your attitude thinking you know more and think more about things than JD, MLF and Saleh.
