2yr/12m for Braxton!! LFG!!! IMO they can wait until the draft for WR now. Priorities in FA now IMO are TE, DT and one big CB or S addition
Yeah I don't get the Hughes hate here. He's consistently the most accurate beat writer we have by far. Everything he was saying during training camp last year turned out to be true - Mims sucked, Becton was getting lit up, etc. If you listen to Hughes' podcast it's clear he's really tuned in with the team. He's accurate in advance the vast majority of the time.
I think some people just default to hating Jets beat writers. Agree I like Hughes and even Cimini. Most of them are fine IMO. Mehta was a different story
I like getting Tomilson and retaining Braxton. Losing Foley kind of bothers me because it feels like the same reasoning we traded Leonard Williams, over a scheme fit. Another Jet not surviving his rookie contract - to go on to greater things?
While that might be true I would rather not borrow from future year caps to pay this year FA signings which is what we will have to do if we sign any other big names. If our 2021 draft class keeps doing well we are going to have to save a ton of cap space to pay them and Zach down the road, hopefully the same for Becton and for the 2022 draft class.
I’d add one more. Davis,Moore, draft pick, free agent, Berrios and the smiths, because we will always keep the smiths.
i liked foley a lot too but 10 mil was too much for a 2 down run stuffer. look for the jets to take a run at tim settle. wouldn't surprise me if we draft a DT in the 2nd either. a guy like winfrey. that would put the DTs at Q, Winfrey, settle and marshall
we have a ton of money next year and the cap will go up and we could release mosley to make it much more. structuring contracts to take advantage of that is smart. with that said he's only signed 2 people and hasn't even spent this years money yet. probably has about 20ish mil left depending on structure. not to mention we could cut GVR and griffin for another 7 mil
I think the problem with Hughes is not his content but his presentation. He is extremely young, dresses like a yuppie, is outspoken, talks a lot about himself during the podcasts and can come off as arrogant and all about himself. But, if you can get past the personality and focus on his reporting he is extremely good. He works tremendously hard, pumps out a ton of information on twitter and seems well connected with the Jets. He reminds me of Cimini when Cimini was with the DN. Cimini used to be really hard working and had a lot of good info but was not likeable at all. Now Cimini while still unlikeable has become lazy, does not have the connections and inside info and spends a ton of time repeating and promoting ESPNs worthless clickbait information.
Yeah some of his extended off-topic rants are unbearable on the podcast. It's still a good listen overall but if he could cut down on those it'd be fantastic.
Didn’t Cimini mention Sheldon returning? And call me crazy, but I think I’d feel out what I could get for Q. He’s gonna went big $, and I don’t think he’ll be worth what he wants, especially with the $ invested there. Plus, JFM ideally plays his spot in the perfect world. I’d feel out what I could get for Becton too. also, anyone seen any reports on targets since the barrios and Tomlinson signings?
